PATENT OFFICE.
OHIO, ASSIGNORTO HIMSELF AND CHARLES WHITTINGHAM, OF SAME PLACE.
IM PROVEMENT lN SCAFFOLD-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,759, dated August 17, 1875; application filed July 10, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. FELLOWS, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Scaffold Bracket and Clamp, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out-in the claims.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bracket and clamp, with a part of the clamp sectioned and Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1 on the line as 00.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the post; B, the bracket or scafl'oldblock; 0, the yoke-clamp D, the roller, and E and F the inclines of the block, along which the roller acts to clamp the block fast. The roller is applied by means of the bolt G, which connects the two open ends of the yoke. A clamp of this character, but without the roller, has been used with a block or bracket without the curves, and with the bolt arranged in a vertical slot in the block. This plan is better, because all the strength of the block is here utilized, which is not the case when the bolt is port the lateral bars, and the object of the improvedfastenin g is to dispense with the clumsy method of fastening by ropes.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent 1. The combination of the roller D, bolt Gr, yoke-clamp 0, block B, and post A, substantially as specified.
2. The block B, having a curved face whereon the clamp acts, substantially as specified.
WM. 0. FELLOWS.
