Appimmon ma :my a, im. semi no. aoaisa This invention relates to a faucet, the general object of the invention being to so form the faucet removed as a unit, with means for enabling arts to necessary, suc 'parts also being reversible so that new portions can be brought into use when other `,portions have become worn.
A further ob]ect ofthe invention is to so arrange the parts with a single washer and a single washer engaging member or it can be used with two washers and two washer engaging members, with means for providing the valve head with a reversible washer engaging member which may or' may not be provided with a washer.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a metal ring for fitting in the ring washer which engages body so I as to prevent spreading lof the washer, this metal ring being capable of acting as a ,washer' engaging member at all times.
A still further ob]ect of the invention is to provide means for carrying additional washers' and washer engaging members by the faucet, so that they will be at hand when new washers or parts are needed. y
This invention also consists in certain V other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus) trated in the accompanying drawings an specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

A washer 15 of ring shape fits in and is adapted to engage the seat 2 when the barrel is in` proper position in the, faucet, and thehead provided with' a recess 16 in its lower end which forms an annular projection 17 which will engage the washer when the 'head is in lowered positionV passing from the inlet of the faucet into the barrel or chamber 3. Thus when the annular projection 17 engages the washer, the faucet is closed, but when the head 14 .is raised, watervwill flow through the opening in the seat intothe barrel through the openchamber 3 and will discharge through the spout 4. As will be seen, the washer 15 remains stationary at all times yduring the operation of the faucet, but when the barrel is removed the washer is removed [with it so that a new washer can be easily is held against rotary l 4. The valve and thus prevent water formed in the washerl and this portion,
prevents ,spreading of the washer, and will be seen, when the faucet is closed th'e washer is almost entirely surroundedby metal.'" This-washer ot only acts as a seat for the valve head but it also prevents water from passing between the se-at and the barrel'and reaching the chamber 3.
The valve head is provided with a threaded hole 20 which communica-tes with the recess 6 soy that a washer 21 can be placed in the recess and held therein by a screw-22 which engages the threaded hole 20. 'When this is done, the washer 21 will been upper end of the sleeve 18 ast e Washer 15 is being engaged by the part 17 of the valve lhead so that this construction rovdes two washers and two washervengagmg members, as shown in Figure 2, lthus providing a double joint'between the valve head and the seat and insuring against leakage from high pressure systems.
As shown, I make the sleeve 18'with the flan e 19 closer to one Iend than the other so vt at by reversing the sleeve as shown at 1 8 in Figur' 3, the washer 21 will engage the projecting upper'end of the sleeve, but the part 17 will not engage the Washer 15 so that in lthis'arrangement but a single washer and a single washer engaging member are used.
Figures 4 and 5 show a bi-facial'v seat attached tothe 'valve head by a long screw 22. These figures also show a washer 24 placedfon each side of the Seat with the washer'21 pla-ced in the recess of the valve head, but if desired, the seatcan be used without the Washers as its annular projecting part, engaging the main washer 15, will act to close thefaucet when the; head i3 in 'lowered position. By having the long end of the sleeve 18 uppermost and using `a washer 24 on the lower` face of the seat -28, one washer and washer engaging part comes into use when the valve is closed, as shown in Figure 4, but by using the short part of the sleeve, as shown in Figure 5, two washers and two washer engaging parts will come into use when the faucet is-closed, as shown in said ligure. 'When one face of the seat 23 becomes worn, it/.can be reversed so as to lbring the new face into use and the washers can also be reversed and when the washer being used has become so worn that it is useless, one of the other washers can be substituted therefor and I may form a chamber 25 in the stem 4handle 26 to receive extra-vk parts this chamber being-covered by a remova le cap 27. If it is desired to entirely close the faucet to (prevent the same from beingused, I prov1 e arplug 28 which is to be substituted for the sleeve and which closes the opening in aged by the the seat so that no water will pass from the faucet even though the valveV head is in raised position, as the plug is held to its seat when the valve head 1s raised by the washer 15 and the barrel.
Figure 9 shows aanged sleeve 30 used inplace of the sleeve 18, this' sleeve preventing spreading of the washer 15, and by making the sleeve long Venough to extend slightly above the washer, this sleeve could be used as a seat or washer engaging member.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a faucet having a removable unit which carries all the working parts and in whichthe wearable partsare removable so that they can be renewed and some of which are reversible so that when they become worn on oneside, they can be reversed to bring the unworn side into use. It will also 'be seen that the faucet can be easily changed to suit high and low water pressure systems and also that the faucet can have its parts arranged to suit existing conditions in the situation in vwhich it is used.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip-v aol tion that the advantages and novel features l 1.
