TOY
Filed March 1925 IN VENTOR:
KARL hLLcn,
Patented Apr. 24, 1928.
KARL xoL LEa, or Los ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
TOY.
Application filed March 2, 1925. Serial No. 12,599.
This invention relates to devices by which a ball or other similar suitable object may be discharged and handled in a game.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a device of hollowi'orm with an opening, by which air may be discharged from the hollow of the device on being hit.
Another object is to provide a device of hollow form with an-opening, having retaining means by which an article may be held hollow body, is ejected from that opening,
' in front of the opening, to be discharged by discharging air from the hollow of the device.
Another object is to provide a device of hollow form with an opening made of flexible material, such as rubber, so that an article placed in front of the opening may be ejected by discharging air from the hollow of the device when thedevice is hit.
Another object is to provide such a device with a funnel-like retainer by which an article may be held preparatory to being discharged and by which such an article may be received or caught, as from an opponent or partner in a game.
Other objects will appear from the following description and appended claim as well as from the accompanying drawing, in which 1 is a general midsectional view of the device, having a ball placed. over the opening of the hollow body.
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatical illustration of the manner in which the device may be used in one form.
As illustrated in the drawing, the hollow body 8 is provided with an opening 4. This v hollow body is preferably made of rubber,
partly or the whole body, or any other similar suitable flexible material, having a suitable degree of resiliency to retain and regain a certain shape, and as long as the resilient portion is large enough. In the drawing, the hollow body is illustrated asof semiglobular form, but it must be understood that this hollow body can be fully globular or of any other form as long as it possessesthe necessary resiliency to normally retain its shape and to regain its shape on being hit.
The opening 4 is comparatively small so that air may be forced throughthis opening from the hollow of the body under a suitable degree of velocity When the resilient body is hit.
A handle 5 of considerable length is shown in the drawing, especially in Fig. 2, but, of course, the device may just as well be handled directly by the hand of player, without any handle.
If the hollow body 3 is hit on the ground, as indicated in Fig. 2, the resilient body is somewhat compressed so that air is discharged from the opening.
A ball, placed over the openingof the by the discharging air passing out through the opening from the hollow of the-device,
as indicated at 6 in Fig. 2.
A funnel-like extension-end is preferably provided on the hollow body, surrounding the opening 4. A part 7 or portion of the inside is preferably of cylindrical or other similar suitable form so that a ball 8 may be held in a certain position, or slightly engaged within such a portion to hold the air in the hollow body 3, even on being hit, until a suitable pressure is formed in the hollow body to give the discharging air sufiicient force to throw the ball from the retainer with a desired'velocity and fora desired distance. By a more or less hard hitting of the hollow body the movements ofthe ball may be very well controlled. The front portion 9 of the extension end is preferably of conical form to facilitate a catching of a ball into retaining position.
Having thus described my invention,
claim: I
In a toy, a ball, a hollow body made of resilient material having an opening, and an extension-end provided on the body embodying a cylindrical engaging portion larger than and concentrically ad acent to the said opening having a conical receiving mouth portion with the wider end forming the tree receiving termination of the extension end whereby the said ball can be held preparatoryto being discharged by air force from the hollow of the body when the body is compressed, the said taper receiving mouth being adapted to facilitate a dropping of said ball into engaging position ready for a succeeding discharge.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name.
KARL KOLLER.
