Application filed January This invention relates to electric condensers. H f
This invention has utility when incorporated in adjustable condensers, especiallyin nieety of control in determined regions.
Referring to the drawings: L.
v Fig. 1`is a side elevationgvith parts broken away, of an embodiment lof the invention in a condenser, as especially adapted for radio work;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the 'condenser of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a partial section on the line III-III, Fig; 2; Y
Fig. 4 is a section of the line IV-IV, Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a detail view in perspective of one of the elements providing one of the series of faces; and
Fig. 6 is a view of a capacity-distance curve hereunder. A
Insulation panel l-is shown as having mounted thereon by screws 2, lugs 3 extending from housing 4 of general box form having closure lid 5 at the top thereon. Fixed with rear end 6.of this housing 4 and therein is member 7 having forwardly projecting wedges 8 providing adjacent faces 9, 10, converging. These faces as shown are of plane form and as adjacently approaching maybe somewhat short of running into a feather edge therebetween.
This member 7 has terminal 11, externally threaded, upon which is mounted nut 9, 10. This member 16, asmovable on the insulation guide rods 15 has its distance from the member 7 adjusted by stem 19 having threaded engagement with themember 16, and held by collar 20 against axial movement as to front end 21 of the housing 4.
Accordingly, rotation of this stem 19inl one direction will cause the member 16 to move toward the member 7 land thus reduce the distance between the parallel faces 9, 17, and the parallel opposing faces 10, 18. -Rotation of this stem 19 in the opposite direc- 1.6, 1925. .serial 110.2385."
tion will cause` the distance between these opposing parallel faces to increase.,` `As these faces move ftowa-rdeach other there isnot only7 a reduction of the perpendicular distance between the faces as interitting,but
there islan increase in the area of the Opposvice for actuating pointer 28 over scale 24.
This housing 4 las installed is preferably charged with a liquid, as castor oil 81 as a factor in increasing the condenser effect and stabilizing the condenser against disturbance by atmospheric conditions. Y j
The stem 19, as conductor connected to the member 16,-has its collar 2O eect packing with the housing wall 21 against leakage of the castor oil31 therethrough. The opposite electrical connection to the one from the member 7 may be effected by circuit from the member 16 throughthe stem 19. Insulation mounting 4of the `knob 22 precludes ground from such source, and conductor action may be by way ofthe housing.
l/Vhat is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. An electric condenser comprising 0pposing series of interlitting Wedgefaces, insulation guide means Apreti'ud'ing'iifrom one series and through the other series, rotatable adjusting means for propelling one series on said guide means toward the other, a hous-V ing for the members, castor oil in said house xing extending bets/'een said faces, a terminal for one series of Vfaces connected 'through the adjusting means and mounted on said housing7 a terminal for the vother series 'directlj7 mounted on saidothermembe'ig anda packing Vfor the adjusting means as passing into `the housing. y
2. In a radio receiving set having a conlsaidv housing on which the second element is movable as tothe Wall mounted element, rotatable adjusting means for propelling the movable element as to thel other element, said nieans havinga'shaft th'roi'igh the housing and panel, a control dial 'x'r'l'onnted on the shaft exterior of the l'aanel,y and a terminal mounted bv the housing haviig electric rContact ivi't'h through the housin-gand shaft.
'In Witness whereof I ai'x mv signature.
