Application filed September 25, 1926;. Serial No. 137,737.
rlhis`V invention relates to certainfvnovelV i l improvementsin window scaffolds and has for its principal object the vprovision yof an(` i' improved'construction of this character i Vl which willbe highly efficient in use and eco-V noinical in manufacture. j
' Among the'several objects of the invention is the provision of a deviceof this character which inay be expeditiously operatively associatedwith a window structure to provide o a scaffold platform supportand one which will assure safety. d Other objects will appear hereinafter.
Theiinvention Consists in the novel corn# binati'on and arrangement of parts to: be
. hereinafter[described and claiined.
The invention will be best understood'by reference to the. accompanying drawing struction, 11. the head' of the window conf struction, 12 and 13 the lside jambs and sill showing thev preferredf'forin lof construe.
tion and in whichz-v Fig. 1 is ya vertical sectional Idetail view 0I a window construction `illustrating thev invention in applied vpositionand showing certain parts of the invention in section.`
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional vdetail view taken substantially 'on ,line '2 .27 of Fig.' 1, and Y t Fig. 3 is a sectional detailview takensub-L stantially on line 3 3 of FigQl.
In the drawing 10 indicates awindow convof the window construction, respectively.
lWithl this construction 'I SSOCH'G my im" proved window scaffold (which includes a supporting bar 14 functioningI to support the scaffold plank 15. YThe inner yend porj tion 16 of the supporting bar extends sub-V stantially at right angles with .respect to the major portion of the supporting bar and is provided with a tapped hole 17 to receive the adjusting screw 18 including a .plate 18 to which the screw 18 is connected by a balland socket connection 19 and 'is providedwith a'handle 19. The outer end 14 of the bar 14 is bent substantially rectangular to provide a seat 23 for the scaffold plank 15. The yportion 21 of this end portion is adapted to be drawn in clampingv relation with the-face 20 of the head 11. Secured as at 21 to the bar 14 is an end portion 22 of the brace 32. This end portion 22 hasv an angled end portion 24 which `functions to prevent sidewise displacement of the scaffold plank when disposed upon the seat.
l Secured to the under side of the loerl 1.4."
is `an annularflange 26 of aY sleeve27 threaded, iiiteriorlyv as at "28; `Theyflaiige 26 is secured to the bar through the mediumA l fof bolts 29. The sleeve'27y has connected 'to its lower end portionasat 30` a .collarl31 which is formed as an integral part ofthe brace32.v l g j V, 1 y :The sleeve 27 slidably'receives a coll'ajiv35 -having formed on oppositey sidesthereof of elements 38 of aturnbuckle structure, 39

operate with the'supporting barjto provide av 'j secure scaffold plank support.
The sleeve 27 is adapted to receive a screwv i y 4 shaft 43 and this screwV shaft -43denes at `its lower eiidvportion an inverted frustro portion.- 44 carrying a Y conicallyshaped lend handle bar 45. o y l ,To complete the invention V I provide va whereby the screw shaft maybe expeditiously rotated for threaded engagement within the sleeve 27 This structurev includes a clamp 46 which'is'elamped to the sill l:13 through the inediuin` of adjusting screws47,
one engaging on top of thesill andthe other engaging at the side of the sill and both. in-
bearing structure for vthe screw shaft 43 cludingplates 47 having end .portions work-v ing inl slots 48. Secured tothis clamp 46,is`.` i' i a bearingvstructure 48 which includes abase' 49 providing a recess 50 within which theA bearing rings and ball bearings .51- are confined w'henthe` eXtreme end portion ofthe f are held against displacement through the conically shaped end 44is projected vinto the n j Vbearing structure.v f These "bearing rings 51l l 11e medium of ra cap 52 which issecured to the i base '49 as at 53.1-By rotating rthe screw step upon the' scaffold plank.
Whilel have illustrated and described'tlie preferred form of construction for carrying my inventionin'to eil'ect, this is capable of variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the' invention. l therefore, do notI Wish to be limited to the precise' details of construction set forth, but desire to aifailfiiiyseli of such variations and yniodilications as come Within the scope ot the appended 'clain'is".
The 'inventioiiliaving been set forth, what llV cla'iin as'iiew an'dfdesire to secure by'Letters' Patent is:
1. A scaiqoldV4 structure ot the class des'cvib'ed including a supporting member adapted tosupport a scaffold plank, means for' clamping the supporting member to the head ofY a Window construct-ion, means for forcing they supporting member against the bottom oftliehead, and means for clamping one `end portion `of said last mentioned means tothe sill ofthe Window' construction, said 'elampiiigiiieans' embodying'portions extending'parallel lto `said head adapted to prevent "lateral movement'of said structure.
, 2f A scaiold' structure ineluding'a supporting "bar 'having one end portion extendingin angular direction with respect to vthe majorr portion of the supporting bar and having an opposite end portion bent to provide a seat, means carried by said angled end Y port-ion for drawing said opposite end portion in bearing engagement With the head of a Window constructiomand means for forcing'. said supporting bar into engagement with the head of said Window construction.
kA scai'i'oldstruc-ture including a supporting bar liavingvone end portion extending in angular direction With respect to the major portion of the supporting bar andl having different opposite end portions bentsubstantially ie'ct-an'gulai'ly to provide a seat for the accommodation oi as plank, an ad# justable member carriedby the angled end portion and operative on' the face of* the lie'adot` a Window construction for clamping the liead between apportioii of the seat' and said adjustable member, a clamping structure adapted to have clamping engagement With the sill of said Windovr coiistruction, means having operative connection With the suppoi'ting'bai and the clamping'structure,
said .means including tvv'o movable members" opei'ativ'eor forcing the supporting bar and clamping structure intobeaiingrelationwith the head'andsill respectively, a brace meinber having one end'portionl connected to 'one ot said members and having an opposite end portion connected tothe seat with a portion of said opposite end portion' projecting above said seat andv functioning to prevent sidevvise displacement ofsaid scaffold plank, j
and means forv detachably clamping said forcing means to the jambs yoi. said Window construction' y lntestimony whereof I afHX my signature.
