Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
JACOB G. MISSIMER, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT |N SLEEVE-BUTTONS.
Specilication forming part of LettersPatent No. 166,543, dated August 10, 1875; application filed June 19, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern: A
Be it known that I, JACOB Gr. MISSIMER, of Trenton, county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Iniproveinent in Sleeve-Buttons, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of one of iny improved buttons greatly enlarged and partly in section, the parts being shown in their position when in use. Fig. 2 is the saine View as Fig. 1, but ,showing the parts in position for being applied Aand removed. Fig. 3 is a gietail cross-section taken through the line w w,
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A is the head of the button, and B is the shank. The shank B is bent at right angles to form a foot, b. In the outer side of the foot Zi is formed a wide dovetailed groove, to receive a bar, c, which is made twice the length of the foot. To the inner side of the foot b', near its outer end, is attached the outer end of a spring, D, to the inner end of which, near the shank B, is attached a point or catch, d', which passes through a hole in the foot b', and projects so as to enter a hole iii the bar G and lock it in place when arranged i'or securing the button in the buttonhole, but which, when the bar C is pushed longitudinally, will yield and allow said bar C to slide into the position shown in Fig. 2.
In using the button the bar C is slid into the position shown in Fig. 2. The end of' the bar C and the foot b are pushed through the button-hole, which allows the shank to pass into the said button-hole. The bar C is then pushed forward into the position shown in Fig. l, where it is locked by the spring-catch D. To detach the button a finger is inserted beneath the cuff, and the bar G is pushed back, and the foot and bar are drawn out of the button-hole. v
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentv A button having the face-plate or head A and the shank B, with the single foot b at a right angle to it, in combination withthe spring-catch D and perforated slide-bar G, substantially as and fortlie purpose specified.
