UNITED STATES JOHN C. CONOVER, OF SOMERVILLE, NEW JERSEY.
GUIDE FOR HOLDER TABLES.
Application filed January 8, 1927. Serial N0.'159,984.
The present invention relates to a guide or fence and has for its prime object to provide a structure of this nature which is clamped on top of the shaper or variety molder table to guide the work as it passes the cutter.
An important object of the invention lies in a structure of this nature which is adjustable without stopping the machine and without the necessity of adjusting the knives.
Another important object of the invention lies in the provision of a device of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
WVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the guide showing the same mounted on a table, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 5 denotes the table on which is mounted a bracket 6 extending longitudinally thereof and having the overhanging flange 7 provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending slots 8. Numerals 9 denote plates having bolts rising therefrom through slots 8, said bolts being denoted by numerals 10, and having nuts 11 threadedly engaged thereon so that the plates 9 may be held in different adjusted positions in respect to each other.
The adjacent ends of the plates 9 have like corners cut away to form spaces as is shown at 12 for the rotary cutter 14 which has collars 15 mounted thereon-for holding the cutting tools 16 therebetween. The forward edges of these plates 9 are provided with flanges 17 rising therefrom and the outer ends thereof are bent forwardly at right angles to provide extensions 18. Wedge blocks 19 have their inclined faces slidable on the flanges 17 and projecting therefrom are provided with bolts 20 extending through longitudinal slots 21 in the flanges 17 and having nuts 22 threadedly engaged there with. Adjusting screws 23 are threaded through the extensions 18 and engaged in plates 25 held on the outer ends of the'blocks 19 by screws 26 or in any other suitable manner. Thereby, the screws 23 may be turned for adjusting the blocks 17 toward or away from each other. As the blocks are moved toward the center of the table it will be apparent that they move closer to the edge 30 of the table 5.
in using this device the work is held against the guide block 19 to the right of F igurel and is fed up to the cutter. If the depth of the cut is too much, the adjusting screw 23 is manipulated to push the block toward the cutter. After passing the cutter the other block is adjusted to line with the finished work and holds the work in line and straightens the same. Thus the adjustment may be made while the cutter is in operation thus simplifying the process and saving much time. 7
It is thought that the construction, utility,
operation, andadvantages of this invention I will now be apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely for adjustably mounting the rear alined edges of the plates on a. table for movement 111 alinement with each other, flanges rlslng from the forward edges of the plates and having angular extensions, wedge blocks having their inclined faces slidable on the flanges, pin and slot means engaging the blocks on the flanges, and screw means asso ciated with the extensions and the blocks for moving them along the flanges. Q
2. In combination, an angular bracket adapted to be attached to a table and having longitudinal Slots, plates, bolts rising from along the rear edges of the plates through the slots, nuts on the'bolts to hold the plates in adjusted relation to each other, flanges rising from the forward edges of the plates,
Wedge blocks having their inclined faces slidabie on thefianges, pin and slot means engaging the blocks on the flanges, angular extensions at the outer ends of the'fianges,
with the outer ends of the blocks.
In testimony whereof :I aflix my signaturm mm c. CONOVER.
