NITE STATES CHARLES NICOLAS PLANTRON, OF'ROUEN, FRANCE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CYLINDERS FOR CARDING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,407, dated August 3, 1875; application led December 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES NICOLAS PLANTRON, of the city of Rouen, France, have invented an Improvement in Cylinders for Carding-Machines, of which the following,` is a specification:
My invention relates to that class of cylinders for carding-machines in which teeth are employed instead of the usual cards, and the ohj ect of my invention is to securely and firmly attach these teeth to the cylinder.
I prefer to arrange these cylinders in the carding-machine as shown in Figure l of the accompanying drawing, in which a series of cylinders, H, I, J, K, L, M, and N, revolve in the frame ot' the machine in the several directions pointed out by the arrows, the cylinder H receiving the lap from the roll F, and the cylinder N delivering the cleansed fibers to stripper n and funnel p at the opposite end of the machine.
The cylinders J, L, and N are furnished with the ordinary cards, but the cylinders H, I, K, and M have teeth h secured at the proper angle in surface of each cylinder, as shown in Fig. 2.
Each row of teeth is first rmly attached to a plate, i, which is then placed diagonally in one of a number of longitudinal slots, h', in
the surface ot' the cylinders, so as to impart the proper inclination to them. The slot is then iilled up with cement, x, which, when it has become hard, retains the teeth l1. firmly in place.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe cylinder of a cardin gmachine, having slots h, with the plates fi, provided with teeth n, and the cement vwhereby the slots about the plates are tlled, and the latter secured in position, substantially as described.
In testimony Whereot' I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CHARLES NICOLAS PLANTRON.
