METAL TILE.
Original application iiled August 11, 1926, Serial No. 128,559. Divided and this application filed April 18,
r 1927. Serial No. 183,364.
This ap lication is a division of my application or Letters Patent filed August 11, 1926, Serial No. 128,559.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved vitreous enameled tile which is well adapted to receive and support enamel without likelihood of injury thereto from buckling or bending of the tile, or the enamel being injured in the attachment of the tile to a wall or the like.
A further object is to provide an improved metal tile which may be conveniently laid or positioned, the tiles being securely retained, the securing means, aside frointhe mortar, being independent, so that they may be placed independently should occasion re quire and buckling or shrinking of the wall will not injure the tile.
Objects relating to details and economies of construction and operation of my invention will appear from the detai'lei'l description to follow.
The invention is defined and in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodimentof my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Fig. l is a fragmentary elevation of a section of wall having my improved tile applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a front view of one of my improved tiles.
Fig. l is a detail section on line 4 l of Fig. 3.
Fig. is a detail section on line 55 of Figs. 1 and 3.
in the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views: are taken looking in the direction of the 'little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a wall of a room which in practice may be wood sheeting, wainscoting or otherwise, according to conditions found.
My improved tile comprises a face plate 2 formed of a late of metal with rearwardly rojecting iiiinges or side walls 3, 4 and 5, 51886 flanges being continuous.
pointed out is a fragmentary section on a line The flanges 4 and 5 are provided with lateral GXtGIiSlOIls 6 and 7 respectively, the
Side flanges are provided with holes 10 to receive the mortar, as 11, which embedding the headed fasteners, securely anchors the tile in engagement with the fasteners.
My improved tile is well adapted for repair purposes, that is, thetile being inde pendently engaged with their fastenings, may be removed or inserted in a relatively small space.
My improved tile is Very economical to produce and may be rapidly laid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A metal tile comprising a face plate and integral side walls connected at their ends, one of said side walls having an inward'ly projecting extension at its edge, the face of said extension being in the plane of the edges of the side Walls, the extension being notched for engagement with an attaching stud.
2. A metal tile comprising a face plate and integral side walls, one of said side walls having an inturned extension on its edge, the opposite wall having an outturned extension on its edge, said extension being notched to receive attaching members, the outer sides of said extensions being in the plane of the edges of said side walls.
3. A metal tile comprising a face plate and integral rearwardly projecting side walls at its edges, one of said side walls having an inturned extension at its edge adapted to be engaged with a wall fastening, the opposite flange being provided with an outwardly projecting extension adapted to be engaged with a wall fastening.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JAMES C. DE VOL.
