With these and other objects in view, which will more fully appearas the nature of the invention is better understood, thesame consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes. may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim,

without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the in vention.

The lighter 16 comprises a casing 20, pref- .erably'of metal, the said casing being fitted into'the hollowed outportion of the handle body. The top .face 21 of the casing is disposed flush with the top edge ofthe handle body. Into the casing extends, as usual in devices of this type, a wick tube 22, the

latter projecting above thetop of the casing and its wick'23 being saturated with a liquid hydrocarbon, such as 'ga'solene, which is stored within the casing. Above the casing topprojects a post 24, on which is rigidly mounted a substantially horizontally extend ing tube 25, provided at its end, adjacent to the wick tube, with lugs 26,,between which is-rotatably mounted a friction disk 27 on a pivot'pin28. This friction disk is of hard metaLsuch as steel, and is roughened on its substantially cylindrical hollow body, havof the nicing anopen end 31, snuglyfitting the free I end ofthe wick tube, as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. There is further more mounted within the cap 12 a sparking wheel protector 32, ingthe form of a cap like body, which fits over the said sparking wheel when the cap 12 is in closing position.
