The burner comprises a. hollow member 2 having outlet openingsthrough the upper side thereof for'the'gas, each of which openings is covered by a disc 3 having numerous perforations forthe exit of gas. Said member also'ha's'through the inclined rear-wall thereof a number of'similar openings, each covered by a'disc 4 having numerous perforations therethrough for the passage of gas. It will be understood that when'the burner is in use, the gas passes from within the member? through the perforated discs 3 and 4, and when ignited produces spreading flames which radiate heat that passes through the'open front of the stand. The flames gfrom the gas coming through the discs' ijplayjupon the generator which is therebyheated intensely, with the result that gas is generated from the oil inthe generator.' The member 2 is'supported at one end byafconnectionffi 'with the adjacent end wall of thefstand and'at the opposite end by a gas inlet pipe 6 seated upon the lower end wall of a hole through the end wall of the stand. .The generator comprises a hollow member 81 extending parallel with and close to the wall of the member 2through which the gas outlets through the discs 4 are provided, so that the, flames from the gas coming through the disc's4play entirely around the generator. A fittingS is attached to one end wall of the stand and is formed with an integral tubular extension 10 for connection with an oil supply pipe or hose. A tubular extension 11 integral with the inner side of the fitting projects through the wall 1 and the end thereof encircles a closely fitting portion of a tubular part 12 which has an enlarged externally threaded inner end 13 provided with a number of longitudinal grooves 14 in its periphery constituting parts of the passages from the 'oil supply connection 10 to the burner, A fitting 15 is secured on the threaded outer end of the tubular part 12 and serves as a clamp to bear against the fitting 9 to clamp the arts together, as Wlll be readily understood y reference to Fi 3.v
The generator 8 is screwed on the en of the threaded enlargement 13 so that the end thereof forms an impervious joint with the fitting 9, leaving an annular space 16 between the tubular extension 11 and the surrounding portion=of the generator 8. Oil from the oil supply connection enters theannular spaces 17 around the tubular part 12 and thence passes through holes '18 to the annular space 16, and thence through t-hc passages 14 to the gas generator.
A pipe 19 screws into the inner end of the enlargement 13 concentrically with the generator 8, leaving anannular space 20 into which the oil flows fromthe supply passages described and in which, by the heat of the burner discs 4, gas is generated.
A reduced threaded extension of a chamber 21 is screwed into the inner end of the generator 8. An end wall 23 for the chamber 21 is securedthereto by a nut 24 and is provided with a gas outlet opening comprising an outwardly taperingconical recess 25 and a hole 26 from the apex of the re cess 25. A number of'holes 27 throu h the wall of the pipe 19 admit the gas t reto from the generator 8. A long valve .stem 28 extendslongitudinally through the pipe 19,. being supported at its outer end'by packing by the connections 29 preventing leakage of oil and as from the generator and burner. The va vestem 28 threaded engagement with the connections 29 so that the stem will be moved lon dinally when it is rotated. The inner en .ot'thestem 28 has aconical portion 30 designed and-arranged to seat closely within the conical recess 25 and prevents the passage of gas. A needle point 31 extending from the end of the valve stem is insertablewithin and withdrawable trom'the hole 26,and such operations of the valve stem keep the hole .26 open and prevent the lodgment of carbon or other deposits thereon. A1 triangular portion 32 on the valve stem 28 has one or more of its corners in contact with the inner surface of the wall ot'the pipe 19 and the hole through the adjacent portion of the chamber 20, thus supporting the valve stem properly and serving to scrape portions of the inner surface of the pipe 19 to keep the passage open.
An air inlet connection 33 (Figs. 1 and 2) has one end supported by the nut 24 and the opposite end supporting the inner end of a pipe 34, the outer endof which is integral with and opens into the upper portion 35 of a mixer. The opening into the air inlet '33 is covered by a fine mesh screen 36 shielding the gas therein from the flames of the burner and subjecting the gas to heat. The lower part 37 of the mixer is clamped in connection with the upper part 35 by .a bolt 38, and contacting edges of the two parts of the mixer being ,ground to provide an impervious joint. The pipe 6 .is integral with the lower part 37 of'the mixer and conducts'the gas "therefrom to the burners. The lower part- 37 of the mixer has a bafile '39 attached thereto curving inwardly and outwardly opposite the opening to the pipe 6, thus preventing a direct passage of the gas from the pipe 34 to the pipe 6, with the result that the gas and air become thoroughly mixed before passing to the burner. An approximately radial flange 40 on the inner edgeof the-bafile 39 extends obliquely toward the opening to the pipe 6 and contributes to the mixing of the air and gas.
A screen strainer 41 (Fig. withinthc chamber 21 prevents the passage of heavy substances and tends to maintain the apparatus in an etliciently operative condition.
From the foregoing it will be seen that our invention obtains allot its intended objects and purposes in a very efficient manner, may be economically manufactured and assembledand may be easily taken apart to be cleaned, repaired, or for other purposes. The specific structure and relationship of the parts maybe varied without departure from the nature and principleof the invention.

An oil burner comprising a tubular generator, a pipe supported axially in said generator and having a longitudinal series of openings to receive gas from said generator, a pipe opening into one end of said generator around said first pipe, a third pipe, a chamber having an inlet opening from said first pipe and forming a communication from said first pipe to said third pipe, a valve stem extending through said first pipe and said inlet opening into said chamber, and means for holding said valve stem in different adjusted positions to regulate the passage of gas from said chamber to said third pipe.

An oil burner comprising a pipe having gas inlet openings. an oil generator enclosing said pipe and having an oil inlet passage thereto at one end between said pipe and said generator. an element su 'iporting said pipe and generator in spaced relationship adjacent to said passage. a chamber supporting the opposite ends of said generator and pipe in spaced relationship and opening into said pipe and having a gas outlet opening in alinement with the opening into said pipe, a valve stem extending through said pipe and into said chamber. means for moving said valve stem longitudinally to open and to close said gas outlet. passage from said chamber. a pointed element on the end of said stem operative through said gas outlet passage from said chamber. a polygonal portion on said stem in and contacting with the wall of said opening from said chamber to said pipe. a pipe for conducting the gas from said chamber and provided with an opening. and a screen covering said last named opening.
