BENJAMIN ATHA, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR UNITING WEBS OF CLOTH FOR JAPANNING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,059, dated July 27, 1875; application led February 20, 1875.
To all Awhom Iit may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMiN ATEA, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Japanning Cloth, of which Jthe following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a plan view of a connection of two Webs by my improved connecting device, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line :n a'.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the bar, having the margins B turned up at right angles to it, and the edges U turned over parallel with it, to forni inside grooves, in which to fasten the ends of the cloth F, and D represents the key.
The two ends to be connected are laid across the bar A, 011 the side opening into the grooves, and pressed down at one edge into the grooves at one end ot the bar. The key is then inserted over them, and driven along' to the other end, drawing the oloth ahead of it, and securelybinding,- it in. The unfastening is instantly effected bypulling out the key.
Having thus described my invenfion, Ielaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The bar A, having margins B B and underturned ends C C, ofthe key or rigid wedge D, all constructed and applied as and for the purpose speeied.
