A. LINDE TROLLEY WIRE HOLDER FOR ELECTRIC TRAMwAYs AND OTHER RAILWAYS Filed Sept. 5. 1926 Patented Feb. :28, 1928.

Application filed September 3, 1926, Seria1 No. 133,476, and in Germany Iiiai ch 1925. I
' The overhead trolleywire'suspension clips now in use are either so arranged that the jaws or checks serving to hold the wire are connected with each other by means" of [screws and the wire is held tight in position by tightening up'the screws, or else the clips are made in the formof .pincers which are closed and opened ;by means of 'ob-' 'lique surfaces and a central screw arrangenient. There are, however, also typeswhlch engage with the] wire by means of hooks andeyes and are heldflclosed by Ineans oi wedges, and finally also types which grip the wire by means of spring-like claws and aresecured in position'by' means of a splint.
In thecase of the clips provided with screws these latter easily'get rusted in or else they work loose by the-impact ofthe runners or pulleys and the threads become stripped so that in most casesthe-clips can a only be removed by. breaking them so that they are of no further use. Other cl ps are too, heavy and expensive and are not vibration or shock proof. WVithfthosehaving spring-like claws,"vital I points are the hardness and strength or tempering of the spring devices, as otherwise breakages and a consequent falling of the wire can easily occur.
In order proved wire suspension holder ac'cord1ng to the present invention ismade without screws,
wedges or springs. The two principal parts holding the latter tight and in this position are secured by means of a pin passing longitudinally through the holder and fashioned at the ends like a split-pin.
The holder according to the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which V Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of the holder for one wire;
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof with a round fillet upon the main part;
Figure 3 is an end with a round fillet on the jaw or cheek forming the other part;
Figure 4- is a plan of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is .a longitudinal elevation of the suspension holder for two wires;
Figure 6 is an end view thereof;
Figure 7 is an end view of another form otholder;
to avoid these drawbacks the im- Figure dis a front 'elevdtion thereof and Figure Qisan elevation of that part thereof provided with the round'tongue or fillet.
The mainpart or cheek'l' .(Figurefl) of the holder has at'the topaneye 2 with an internal screw thread 3 for engagement by the suspension bolt (not shown). The cheek I 1 is provided with the recesses 1 and 5 and also the 'round'tongue 6," (Figure 2) all of whichextend longitudinally of the holder and with it there is engaged the holding member or jaw? provided with the longitudinal recesses'8, 9 and 10 of which the recess 9 fitsfsnugly upon the round tinuous cylindrical hole'for the safety pin 11 and below for holding jaws12 fO Ii'the' rib 13 of the wire 14:, The vpin l1, intended to prevent any displacement in relation to with a slot 16. The two vprongs of the slotted end are bent apart like a split pin for the purpose of securing the pin against disengagement and to ensure no displace- I ment of the cheek and jaw in relation to each other. In Figure 1 only half of the jaw 7 is shown, so that the recesses land 5 and also the round tongue 6 of the check 1 can be clearly seen.
The construction of the holder according to Figure 3 differs from that according to Figures 1, 2 and 4 merely in the fact that here the round tongue 6 'is located on the jaw 7 whilst the check 1 is provided'with the recess 9.
7of. tongue 6 of the cheek 1, whilst therecesses .8 and 10 in conjunction with the recesses 4. I and 5 of thecheek foriniat the top a'coneach otherol' the check 1' and the jaw? I when engaged with thewirefl3; 14, is providedon one-end with-a head 15, andfon the othere'nd projecting ;from the holder The manipulation and Inethod of operation forms of holders illustrated is the same.
The holder according to Figures 5 and 6 serves to carry two wires 18 and 19 The central part 20 possesses at the top the eye 21 with internal screw thread 22. Upon the is furnished on each side with a round tongue 25 and two recesses 26 and 27 Upon each side of the cheek engages a jaw 28 precisely webs 23 there is provided the check 24 which i a cylindricalhole' 32 at the top which rescribed for" the single wire suspension clip.
Here again also the two round tongues 25 can be provided upon the jaws 28 instead of upon the central cheek 24. In the latter event the cheek 24: would then be provided with two corresponding recesses.
In Figures 7, 8 and 9 there isshown a further modified form of holder according to the invention, consisting of two plates 35, 36,ofl.whichthe cheek 35 engages .by
means of a pin37 in a slot in the jaw36.
'The'cheek possesses two recesses 38 and 39 and the round'fillet 40, and the jaw 36 1 three recesses 41, 42 and 43 which as previ- ,end ,as already described.
e ously described when the parts are placed together form 'at'the top a cylindrical hole and below the holders, the parts being'held together by means of a pin 4: 1 split at one What Iclaim and desire to secure by 'Letzter's Patent of the United States is 1.1A trolley wire suspension holder for tramways andrailways comprising a cheek fimelnber provided with a thr'eadedeye' to permit the cheek member to be'suspended, a
i "151W member, a round'fillet on one of said -members extending longitudinally thereof and. a. corresponding recess on the other member fitting said fillet whereby the jaw member may be displaced longitudinally of [the cheek member, cooperating recesses on said cheek and aw members and a removablesplit pin inserted insaid last-mentioned recesses to prevent longitudinal displacement between the cheek member and the jaw member. V r '2. A trolley wire suspension holder for 'tramways and railways comprising cheek provided on each side with recesses and a round fillet, a jaw on each side of the cheek and provided with recesses cooperating with the recesses in the cheekand a recess adapted to receivethe corresponding fillet when the parts are placed together, and a pin adapted to be secured in the hole formed by each pair ofsaidxcooperating recesses to hold the qaws and thegcheek together against longitudinalldisplacement. I
3. A trolley w ire [suspension holder-"for tramwaysand railways'comprising a cheek 7 member provided with a threaded eye to permit the cheek memberto be suspended,' a aw member, a round fillet provided on said cheek member, a corresponding recess pro- .vided on thejaw member so that the jaw member may be slid on the filletand' beldisplaced longitudinally of theIcheek' member,
cooperating recesses-on said cheek and jaw members, and a removable spllt pin inserted in said last-mentioned recesses-to prevent'f longitudinaldisplacement between the cheek and jaw members theIfillet on the cheek member being laterally displaced therefrom so that the said split pin, the fillet andthe trolley wire held by the holder are not in the same vertical plane. j
