Description

Feb. 28, 1928.
H. G. BUCHAN FILE Filed Aug. 23. 1926 Patented Feb. 28, 1928.
- UNITED STA HUGH Gr. BUCHAN, OF RAHWAY TO'W N SHIP, UNION COUNTY, NEV JERSEY.
FILE.
Appncation ined August 23, 1926. serial No. 130,867.
rIhis invention relates to a file vin which loose sheets may be filed so that they can readily be removed and it is among the objects of this invention to provide such a structure which is especially adapted for hospital records, or telephone log records and which is so constructed that files can easily be racked, one above the other.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combinations hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the file;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view upon the line II-II of Figure 1; v
Figure 3 is an enlarged bottom end view of the device; n Y
Figure 4 is an enlarged side elevational view of the file; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary enlarged front elevational view of the file.v i
As illustrative of this invention, there is shown a back or supporting member 1 which may be made of fibre or any suitable material. The upper part is preferably provided with laterally extending` tongues 9. and an aperture 3 whereby the same may be sus pended from the wall.
A pair of impaling posts 4 are secured in the supporting` member 1 near the upper edge thereof. TheV sheets 5 are provided with suitable apertures for receiving` these posts and are sustained upon the support ing member 1 by an elastic band 6 which encircles the support 1 and fits over a retaining plate or clamping member 7 upon the sheets and which is provided with mushroom or T-shaped slots 8 at its ends into which the bands may be inserted by an edgewisemovement. The lateral sides of the support 1 are also provided with similar slots 8 into which the rubberband is inserted by van edgewise movement.
The lower surface of the plate 6 is provided with recesses 6a to receive the impaling posts, thus anchoringl the plate against lateral movement.
If desirable, a rnbberband 9 may be used to retain the lower ends of the sheets. The rubber band 9 preferably encircles the support 1 which is provided with suitable lateral notches 10to'receive the band; The band 9, extends over the sheets and retains the same close to the back support. v
It will be noted that these files have no projecting partsy on their upper or lower faces so that they can readily be racked one upon the other, and any one may bereadilv removed if desired when so racked. It should also be noted that the filel is freev from. exterior metal parts whereby short circuiting is prevented when used as a telephone log book or the like.
I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art. 75'
I claim as my invention:
,1. A file comprising a support, `a pair of impaling posts on said support, and means for retaining loose sheets. upon said support comprising a plate member having T-shaped slots in its ends and an elastic vband encircling said support and the body of theplate member and confined in said notches.
2. A ,file comprising a rear support, a pair of impaling posts thereon, a clamping member havingl recesses for receiving said posts and notches invits ends, and an elastic mem-V ber engaging in said notches for retaining' said clamping member on said support.
3. A file comprising a Vsupport having` a pair of impaling posts, a clamping` member having recesses for receiving said posts, said support and clamping member having notches in their ends and an elastic ban-d encircling said support and member and "5 positioned in said notches. i y
In testimony whereof I have hereunto lsubscribed my name.
