UNITED STATES ALBERT oHnnnL, on NEW BEDFORI), MASSACHUSETTS.
REFUSE Horn Application filed January 22, 1927. Serial No. 162,870.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary storage means for garbage, ashes, trash or other waste materials, an object being to provide a holder for refuse which may be made of a number of separate interfittmg units, capable of being readily set up to provide a housing to receive a number of containers;
Another object of the invention is the provision of a ventilated receiving chamber which is located within a main chamber, the said receiving chamber being of novel construction and having a cover provided with means for conveniently opening and closing the receiving chamber.
With the above and other objects in View,
the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to'
be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view..
Figure fl: is a view showing the under face of the top of the housing.
Figure 5 is a perspective of an anchor hook used in connection with the device.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters or reference denote corresponding parts, the invention is shown This chamber is formed of a bottom 11, a top 12, a back 13, sides 14 and a front 15, the latter being formed of sections which include an intermediate section 16. Thelast mentioned section is provided with'an opening 17 which may be closed by a door 18, the latter being hingedly mounted as shown at 19 and being provided with a latch 20. The opposed faces of the top 12 and bottom 11 are provided with grooves 20 which extend around these members adjacent their edges and are.
adapted to receive the opposite edges of the back, sides and front walls of the housing.
The housing is adapted to be supported in elevated position and for this purpose there is provided a number of pillars 21. These pillars and the walls of the chamber are preferably formed of fireproof material so that the said chamber may receive a number of containers 22 within which may be placed hot ashes or other combustible materials and ing 22 anc this openmg communicates with a recess 23 provided in a pillar 24. The upper portion of this recess is provided with a hollow cylindrical lining 25 which extends below and above the bottom 11, the upper portion being of an enlarged diameter so as to provide a shoulder 26 which rests upon the bottom 11. The upper portion of the lining provides a flange 27 to which is hingedly secured as shown at 28, a cover 29. The chamber thus provided is adapted to receive a garbage or other container 30.
Extending upwardly along the rear wall 13 is a ventpipe 31. The lower end of this pipe is in communication with the receiving chamber as indicated at 32, while abranch pipe 33 provides communication between the vent pipe 31 and the upper or enlarged portion of the receiving chamber formed by the flange 27. The upper end of the vent pipe 31 is engaged by an anchor hook 341: which has one of its ends clamped within the groove 20 of the top 12, between the inner wall of this groove and the upper edge of the rear wall 13.
A rod 35 has one of its ends suitably secured to the cover 29 and its other end secured to an arm 36 which is carried bya handle 37. This handle is pivotally mounted as at 38 and when in its lower position, the cover 29 will be in closed position. In order to raise the cover, the handle 37 is swung upward to the position shown by the dotted lines in Figure 3 of the drawings and in this position is adapted to be engaged by a keeper 39 so as to hold the cover in raised position.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form,proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scopeof the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is An apparatus of the character described comprising a housing, said housing includmg a bottom slab having an opening therein and a groove extending around the upper face of the slab adjacent the edges thereof, a top slab havinga groove extending around its lower face adjacent its edges, rear, side, and front slabs having their edges located within said grooves, the front slab being formed of sections with one of said sections having an opening, a door for closing the ogening, alining positioned Within the opening of the bottom slab and extending below and above the slab to provide a chamber, ;a. vent pipe extending through the Wall of the housing and having its inner end in communication With the chamber, a removable container for :the chamber, a hinged cover for the chamber and means located above and 10 spaced from the cover to manipulate the latter.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. ALBERT CHENEL.
