GREASE CUP.

This invention relates to improvements in grease cups, the general object of the invention being to provide a removable cap for the cup which carries a spring plunger for automatically forcing the grease from the cup into the bearing, with spring means for holding the locking means of the cap iii-operative osition.
Another 0 ject of the invention is to so place the spring that it will remain on the cup where it will be compressed by the cap as the cap is placed on the cup, with asocket in the cap for receiving a part of the spring so that the spring is protected from injury by the cap. I
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinajter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my inventi-on'in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1is an elevation of the improved cup. I

In these views, 1 indicates the bod of the cup which is provided with the t readed portion 2 for engaging a threaded hole in the bearing and with the wrench enga mg portion 4. The upper or outer end 0 the cup is also provided with the wings 5 which are diametrically opposite each other. The cap is shown at 6, and said cap is provided with the op ositely arranged ofiset portions line 3 -3 of Figrooves8 for receiving the wings. The cap 1s also, provided with the oppositely arranged openings 9 with which-the grooves 8 communicate sothat after the. cap is laced over the cup, with the wings engaging the grooves, and the-cap pushed on to the cap, a quarter turn of thecap will cause 7 at the s1 esthereof which form internal the wings to leave the grooves and enter the openings 9. The bottom wall of each openmg is recessed,as at 10, to receive the lower portion of the wing, each wing having each lower corner beveled to engage corres ond-. n%bevels of the recesses, as clearly s own in igure 1.
A coiled spring 11 is placed on the cap, with one end resting against the part 4 and itsother end adapted to engage the shoulder 12 formed by the socket 13 in the cap so that this spring tends to push the cap u wardly or outwardly and thus holds tiie wings in the recesses 10. The cap carries the plunger 14 which is normally pressed downwardly by the coiled spring 15, the stem of'the plunger being slidably carried by the cap, as shown.
From the foregoing, it wilLbe seen that the spring 11 remains on the body of the cup and will be compressed when the cap is placed in position on the cup so that the spring will hold the locking means in operatlve position. The major portion of the spring occupies the socket 123 in the cap which will protect the sprin from damage from a wrench enga ing t e part 4 and from blows and the 1i 0. By removing the cap, the plan r will be withdrawn from the cup so t at lubricant can be placed therein. Then when the cap is put in place, the spring action of the plunger will automatically feed the lubricant into the bearing.

will not come in contact with the lubricant and it will remain in place at all times.

I desire it to be understoo that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the sec of the appended claim.
