My invention relates to improvementsjin combination shipping cases and belt reels, and it consists inithe v combinations, constr tions, and arrangements hereinde'scribed and claimed. A V I i r An object my invention is to, rovidea combination shipping case nd] Ielt reel which permits the'convenient and economical handling of large. rolls'of beltin p A. further object s to prov a dev ce f it poss larger quantities andat a lower cost.
A further obJ'ect isto provide a deviceof the type described which obviates the need of hoists and other equipment ordinarily used in raising the roll of belting material into a. rotatable position. v V
A further object is to provide a device of the type described which provides a novel ni eans for holding the 1 011 of material against- "displacement within the case during importing and exporting.
A further ob ect 1s to provide a device of the type described in which the casin serves as a shipping crate, as a guide for tie belting, and as a support for the roll of belting material.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the followingspecification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device,
Figure 2 is a section substantially along the line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a side elevation of my device with the roll of material in rotative position,
and
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the device when ready for exporting.
In carrying out my invention, I provide ajrecta'n c ceivable in openings,
bottom 6 and are provided with openings lel for'receiying bars 151 roll ofmaterial 15, having acen'tial opening '16,,1s dlsposed within "the casin g uponthe bars 1 1.
.l/Vhen 1e roll of'materialis disposedwithin the ca. ng'aind the walls thereofjproperly secured ii -place, the device is'fr'eady toflbe delivered,to, the customer. The customer I maythen remove one of the end wa it nay then be passed thifo 1gb larlop'e ngs which are provided in the sid'e walls 1 and il and Jhroughthe central openi 16. The shaft fiextendsa short distance I f xle beneath the .endsof'the iaftli, the'roll 15, together with the shaft 17, may be raised a shortdistance to freethe roll from the bars 1 1' WVhen the 1:01115 has been raised the desired distance, pillow block s 19,"'having arcuateshaped grooves20 in the upper sur face thereof, are disposedupon the hori zontallyextending members 7 and 8 beneath the shaft .17. other suitable raising means, theshaft 17 will rest upon the pillow blocks 19. The roll 15 may now be rotated upon the shaft 17. The reinforcing members and strips are of sufficient strength to support the roll. The shaft 17, together with the pillow blocks which are not used when the device is delivered, may be enclosed within the casingA.
In Figure 1 I have shown the casing pre pared for exporting. In exporting, it "is necessary to provide means for rigidly l1olding the roll in one fixed position within the casing whereby the roll cannot move therewithin The reason for this is that the large rolls of materiahsuch as belting, weigh approximately three thousand pounds, and, if the rolls were permitted to move within the casing, the casing would be easily damaged. This means consists in providing additional reinforcing strips 21 upon-each side thereof which have openings 22 for receiving bars 23. The bars 23, together. with the bars 1 1,
circumference thereof.
I claim: 7 1
1. A device of the type describecLYcomprising'a casing having openings therein and adapted'to receive. a roll of material having. a central opening therethrough, reinforcing means for said casing, a shaft reand means dis beyond the casmg, see Figure 2. Byplacmg' acksor other suitable means By removing the jac s or:
posed upon said reinforcing means for supporting said shait and said roll.
2. A device of the type described, comprising a casing adapted to receive a roll or material, reinforcingimeans for said casing having openings therethrough, and bars receivable in said openings and adapted to engage with said roll of material at spacedapart points upon the peripheral edge thereof, whereby said roll is held against displacement within said casing.
A device of'the type described, com prising 'a casing having openings therein and adapted to receive a roll of material having a central opening therethrough, reintforcing means for said casing, means for holding said roll against displacement, a shaft receivable Within said openings, said shaft and said roll being adapted to be raised when said holding means are removed, and means cooperating with said reinforcing means for supporting said shattand said roll in rotative position.
i. A device of the type described comprising a casing adapted to receive a roll or material and having an opening there through, means carried by said casing for supporting the roll of material for holding the roll of material against displacement when said casing is in one position, and means adapted to extend through said opening for rotatably supporting the roll of material when the roll of material has been freed from said supporting means.
5. A device of the type described comprising a casing having an opening therein and adapted to receive a roll of material having a central opening therethrough, means extending through said casing for holding said roll of material against displacement, said means consisting of rods disposed adjacent the periphery of said roll of material, said roll of material being adapted tobe moved free from said rods, and asha'ft disposed within the opening in said casing and the opening in said roll of material for rotatably carrying said roll of material.
6. A device of the type described conn .prising a casing having an opening therein and adapted to receive a roll of material having a central opening therethrough, means extending through said casing for holding said'roll of material against displacement, said means consisting of rods disposed adjacent the periphery of said roll of material, said roll of material being adapted to be moved free "from said rods, a shaft (lisposed Within the opening in said casing and the opening in said roll of material for retatably carrying said roll of material, and shaft-receiving means carried by said casing for supporting said shaft.
