Referring to the embodiment of inyin-`v vention shown .in the drawings, the same is shown as applied to a directory board having` horizontally disposed grooves 11 'formed in the tace thereof and adapted to receive removable indicia bearing strips having inturned tongucs fitting in said grooves, so'that the strips are held flat against the tace of the board. y

In the form shown herein,v the face oi" the board is covered with` felt cloth 12 which also extends'y into the ,Grooves 111-11 so as to assist in holding` the tongues ot the indicia. in the usual manner.

In carrying out .my invention. I provide a plurality of naine strips 1515 consisting of a. base 16 oit relatively still' n'iateriahsuch as metal, and provided with a tongue 17 arranged substantially at right` angles to and projecting from `the rear of said strip to iorm the holding member therefor when inserted in the grooves of the board 10. In the form shown, the name strip isvoi the inverted-L type.` in which the tongue 17 pro- `iects vfrom the upper edge of the tlat name plate or base 16. although other forms of tonguek may also be used, if desired. The

tongue 17 extends along the central portionfk of each base 16v but terminates at a distance from one end thereof, as tor instance, the left end, as clearlyshown in the drawings.

An indicator 19 is mounted on the end ot' the base 16l so as to slideireely thereon, said indicator preferably,consisting of a metallicband vor strip 2() having its upper and lowerv edges extending around the base and liiaving-a depressed or upsetfpoitionl 21` onA its'acet-thereofsovasto be readily manip ulated bythe lingers.-y A portion yat the leftV end. off Vthe* base, is preferably' bent or upset inwardly, as indicated at 22, so as to retain the indicator 19 permanently on the base. The arrange-ment is such that .the indicator may slide freely from the position at the eX- treme left end of thebase where it is limited by the upset portion'22, to a second position` toward the centerof the base, where `its `movement is stopped.. by engagement with` the tongue 17; e The -face of the strip forming the base 16 is adapted to receive the various letters, such as those used inthe names to appear on the directory,v such letters being usually-applied by means of'glue or the like,V but with the name spaced to the right of the left end of the tongue, so as to permit the indicator 19 to slide freely between said tongue and the extreme left end of the strip. f

Ina completed directory, the strips above described are utilized in the following manner: A series of strips each carrying names of parties to be included in the directorl are mounted on'the bulletin board with their the board over the ends of the strips carryf ing the indicators 19 and has the words y In and Out thereon arranged in two columns corresponding to the two extreme positions of the indicators when they are moved to lthe right or left positions. Manipulation of each indicator. therefore.I vwill show whether the party represented on its respective strip is in or out, as the case e may be.

Each ofthe name strip-s with its indicator is handled as a unit for addition or substitue p tion of various names, and when in place on the board, each of the sliding indicators 19 lmay be pressed linto close contact with the i'elt cloth of the board so that they are frictionally'fheld from displacement in eitherof their two permissible positions. While I have illustrated and described e the particular embodiment of my invention,

2. In a device of the character' described, a name strip consisting of a base, an indicator slidably mounted on one end of said base, a longitudinally disposed tongue iiitegral with and bent rearwardly from one margin .of said base for insertion in a grooved display board, said tongue terminating at a predetermined distance from the end of said base carrying' said indicator and forming a stop for the latter in one position of adjustment thereof, and an inwardly bent projection formed on the end of said base carrying' said indicator and forming aV stop for the latter in a second position thereof.
