Applicationtiled February 23,l 1926. `VSerial No. 90,108. Y
ther object is to provide a. flexible bracelet in'ivhich vthe bracelet elements are so constructed that they vmay be readily connected or disconnected, so that any one `element may be taken out and replaced at vvill, for the length ofthe bracelet increased by addv ing new elements at any position. .,Aurther objectis to provide solid bracelet elements in which the interlocking portions are concealed from `view VWhile the'bracelet is being Worn, 'said elements beinglprovided with exposed areas capable of receiving ornamental settings, if desired.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set Jforth andparticularly pointed out in the claims. n
In the accompanying drawing Y Figure l is y'side elevation illustrating a ance Wit-lithe invention. Figure@ is a bottom plan view thereof. Figure ySis a longitudinalsectional'view on the lin-e 3 3, Figure 2. Figure lis a perspective view'illustrating the method of connecting thelbracelet elements. Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating one of the bracelet element-s and Figure 6 is a siniilar vievv'illustratingthe same eleinentsreversed. j
Referringto the drawing, A designates a portion of a bracelet made up of a plurality of relatively movable elements. Each ot said'bracelet elements consists of an approx'- imately rectangularbody l0, lprovided vat one edge with a longitudinally `disposed groove 11,'and at theother edgevvitha longitudinally disposed pivot rib 12 'extending.. parallel with said edge. The rib 12" of `each element is coinpleniental to and shaped to engage the groove 11 of a next adjacent element, a plurality of said elements being connected ina chain, as clear-v ly shovvn in Figure 3. The top face of each element 10 may be provi-ded as shown, with spaces 13 to receive precious stones or other settings.
portionl of a bracelet constructed in accord# vkvkrlhe ybottom `face ot each body L10 viis i pro-V vided at` each end .with .horizontal shoulders ll, and the metalatr theeiids is extendedk toy torinflanges l5, located approximately .in they plane of said shoulders, saidflanges being oil-set to extend across the endsofithe groove. ll. As clearlyy shown in Figurel, vafter the rib :l2 of onejeleinent has-beenen-V gaged with the groove Mott-he next adja cent element, the flanges 15 ot'lithelast nien-v tionedeleinentare bent upwardly and then inwardly so as to seatupon theshoulders 214. By reason ottlieir offset' position,l the llanges of one body l0 will overlapca portionofthe" ybody ofhanext adjacentibracelet element,
so asfto preventche rbflQ ofl said adjacent clement.' from moving outoiifthe gioov'ell,`
with which it is engaged, Thus the bracelet` eleinei'its` so:y connected was "to-fhiave pivotal `n'itnieinen-t on Ithe rib and 'fgroove connections, and at the saine timetlie overlapping portions oftheflanges l5 normally prevent separation of said elements. lt Will be un-y derstood that any number of elements l0 maybe connected ina string inthe manner stated, andthe endsfconnected to suitable catch elements,(not Shown) in a manner Well understood in the art. A ltisalsoto be understood thatV although #the bracelet volements are shovvn Yand described as of aprality of bracelet elements, provided with interengaging portions which ymaintain f a flexible pivotal engagement between the ele. ments, and that'by means or" thelang'es 115 the elements are ymaintained inea normally inseparable lexiblefrelation. fvmea'ns of this arrangement, it is not necessary tol use intervening connecting links tor the bracelet elements.` Another important advantage is thatj'by bending back the Ganges of any two adjoining elements, one otthein niaylbe readily disengaged 'and removed :for repair or replacement. Or additional elements may be placed in' the bracelet as desired, the
parts being securely joined together by again bending back the Aflanges so as tooverlap the pivot connections. y
` Having thus explainedthe nature of the invention and described an operative manner bracelet elements, each of which is provided A with side flanges extending across the ends of the movable connection with one ofthe next adjacent bracelet sections, so as to prevent relative lateral movement of the movably connected sections, said flanges having bent over portions extending over contiguous portions of the top of' said adjacent bracelet section.
2.A bracelet of the character described comprising a plurality of movably connected bracelet elements, each or" which is provided with shoulders at its ends and also with side flanges extending across the lends of the movable connection With one of the next adjacent bracelet sections, so as to prevent relative lateral movement of the movably connected sections, .said flanges having bent over portions extending over and engaging shoulders of the said adjacent bracelet section.
3. A bracelet of the character described comprising a plurality of movably connected bracelet elements, each of which is provided with end shoulc ers and also With integral flanges contiguous to and complemental to said shoulders, said flanges extending across the ends of the movable connection with one of the next adjacent bracelet sections, so as to prevent relative lateral movement or" the movably connected sections, and having'bent over portions positioned to overlap portions of the shoulders of said next adjacent bracelet section.
4;. A bracelet of the character described comprising a. plurality of bracelet elements, each vhaving a longitudinal pivot rib on one ledge and a longitudinal pivot groove on the other edge, the pivot rib of each element being .positioned to engage the complemental groove of a next adjacent element, each bracelet element being provided with side flanges extending across -the pivotal connection between itand one of the next adjacent bracelet elements, said flanges having bent over portions extending over portions of the top of said next adjacent bracelet section.
5. A` bracelet of the character described comprising a plurality of bracelet elements, each having a longitudinal pivot rib on one edge and a longitudinal pivot groove on the other edge, the rib on each element being positioned to engage the groove of a next adjacent bracelet element, each bracelet element being provided with end shoulders and also provided with side flanges extending across the ends of the pivotal connection with one of the next adjacent bracelet elements, said flanges having bent over portions complemental to the shoulders of the last mentioned adjacent bracelet element.
6. A. bracelet of the character described comprising a plurality of bracelet elements, each having a groove in one face contiguous to one longitudinal edge and a longitudinal rib 'extending from the other edge below the plane of the top face of' the bracelet element, the rib of cach element being positioned to engage the yOroove of a next adjacent element, each element l'iaving its end faces provided with shoulders and with' side flanges, said flanges extending across the ends of the pivotal connection with one of the next adjacent bracelet elements, the flanges of each element having bent over portions positioned to engage the contiguous shoulders of the element to Which they are attached, and also to overlap the shoulders of the last mentioned adjacent bracelet section.
7. in a bracelet, a bracelet 'element comprising a body having a longitudinally disposed groove on one edge and a. longitudinally disposed rib on its other edge, said body yhaving flange-like extensions at its sides provided with bent over portions positioned to overlap the corresponding contiguous sides of an adjacent similar body.
8. In a bracelet, a bracelet element coinprising a. body having a longitudinally disposed groove in one edge and a pivot rib on the opposite edge extending parallel With the edge and in a plane below the plane of the top .surface of said body, said body having its bottom face provided with side shoulders and complemental bendable flanges contiguous to said shoulders and also complemental thereto. i
9. ln a bracelet, a bracelet element comprising a body having a longitudinal groove in one edge and a. rib extending from the other edge and parallel therewith, said body having side shoulders and bendable flanges in the plane of said shoulders, said flanges being offset to extend across the ends of said groove so asto engage the shoulders of a next adjacent bracelet element.
ln testimony whereof l have hereunto set my hand.
