Description

June 16, 1931. Q SELLE 1,810,060 i BRACELET AND LINKS THERFOR Filed Aug. 18, 1930 fra? c f1 /Nyi/yrak Patented June 16, 1931` UNITED srares Partnr csi-uca OLIVER SELLE, F ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI BRACELET AND LINKS THEREFOR Application led August 18, 1930. n Serial No. 476,018.
This invention relates generally t0 bracelets, and particularly to a new type of bracelet which comprises an encircling band formed of links from which one or more pendants are suspendechthe predominant object of the invention being to produce a bracelet of the type referred to which is made up of links so constructed and so arranged with respect to the associated pendants that said pendants may not be accidentally displaced from their proper positions relative to the links of the bracelet.` Y
Bracelets of the type to which this invenvention relates depend to a large extent for their beauty on the even spacing of the pendants, and if these pendants are displaced from theirl proper relative positions the beauty of the bracelet is very greatly lessened.
In view of this fact I produce the encircling band of the bracelet of connected links which are of such unique construction and arrangement that the connecting elements kwhich serve to attach the pendants to said links are prevented from moving longitudinally of said link to any considerable extent. The
result of this arrangement is that the pendants are always properly spaced with respect to each other, hence the beauty of the bracelet is maintained at alltimes.k
Fig. l is an enlarged fragmentary view illustrating one link of the bracelet, together with fragments of the elements associated therewith. f
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the structure shown in Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. l, but showing the connecting element by which a pendant is attached to the link illustrated in a displaced position.
Fig. 4 is a view on a smaller scale of the improved bracelet as a whole.
In the drawings, wherein is shown for the purpose of illustration, merely, one embodiment of the invention, A designates the improved bracelet, which comprises an encircling band B formed of links C to which a plurality of pendants D are attached. The links C of the band B are attached together by means of connecting elements E, which may be in any convenient form, such as rings, for instance.y v The links C of the band B are 4each provided with a cut-out, or open, portion l, which isentirely .surrounded byv a solid marginal portion 2, said cut-out or open portion 'l at its approximate longitudinal center being provided with opposed curved, or otherwise shaped, portions 3. These portions 8 are produced by extensions 4 which project toward the center of the link, the inner curved edge portions 4 of the extensions located at each side of the link C merging to produce the curvature of one of the arcuate portions' 3. The extensions 4 at opposite sides of the link are spaced apart from each other as shown most clearly in Figs. l and 3, so as to provide a continuous cut-out portion l, and the opposite end portions of the cut-out portions 1 may have the angular shape illustrated, or may be otherwise shaped as desired. The pendants D are connected to the associated links C by connecting elements 5, which may be in the form of slightly flattened rings, these elements passing through loops at the upper ends of thev pendants and extending through the portions 3 of the cutout portions V1 of the links, so as to embrace the marginal portions of said links adjacent to said cut-out portions. The curvatures of the portions 3 serve to provide a seat for the connecting `elements 5. The'connecting elements 5 areof such length that they may not be moved inwardly a sufficient distance to permit the inner end portions thereof to` clear the inner end portions of the extensions 4; inl other words, the lackv of length of the f connecting elements 'will result in the loops D being brought into contact with the adjacent edges of links before said connecting elements have moved inwardly a suflicient distance to permit the inner end portions of said links to clear the inner end portions of the extensions 4. This condition is clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, where the loop D of the pendant (not shown) is in substantial contact withvthe lower edge of the link, and the inner end portion of the element 5 has abutted against one of theextensions 4, whereby additional movement of said ele- 100 ment to the left in said vieW is prevented.
It is plain, therefore, that the pendants D may move longitudinally of the links C only a distance equal to the length of the space between associated extensions 4, and because in a full size link this space is very limited (the links in Figs. l, 2, and 3 being greatly enlarged), the amountlof movement of said pendants is not suliicient to disturb the proper spacing of the pendants of the bracelet.
I claim:
l. In combination, a link for a bracelet or the like comprising a member having a cutout inner portion, an element associated With said link by being extended through said cutout portion, and abutments for limiting movement or said element longitudinally of said link.
2. In combination, a link for a bracelet or the like comprising a member having a cutout inner portion, an element associated With said linkby being extended through said cut out portion, and abutmen'ts for limiting movement of said element longitudinally of said link, said abutments being extended into said cut-out inner portion.
8. In combination, a link for a bracelet or the like comprising a member having a cutout inner portion, an element associated With said link by being extended through said cutout portion, and abutments for limiting movement of said element longitudinally of said link, said abutments being extended into said cut-out inner portion, and having curved edge portions which merge to provide an arcuate seat for said element.
4. In combination, a link for a bracelet or the like comprising a member having a cut* out inner portion, an element associated With said link by being extended through said cutout portion, and abutments Jfor limiting movement of said element longitudinally of said link, said abutments being extended into said cut-out inner portion, and having curved edge portions which merge to provide an arcuate seat for said element, said element being so proportioned with respect to the link as to prevent inward movement thereof to a suiicient degree to permit the inner end portion of the element from clearing said abutments. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto ai'iix my signature.
OLIVER SELLE.
