PATENT OFFICE.

REVERSIBLE CUFF.
Application filed May 20,
. Another object of the invention is to pro- Y vide a reversible cuff of the desired width comprising. a number'of plies of material, and means for hinging the cuff with the sleeve approximately midway of the width of the cuff; whereby when one side edge of the cud is extended for use the other side edge surrounds the sleeve, and when the otherside edge is extended for use the first side edge extends into the sleeve.
Another object of the invention is to provide a reversible cuff of novel construction and secured to the sleeve in a novel'relationship, permitting either side edge of the cuff to be extended for use so that in one position of the cuff one of the side edges thereof extends around the sleeve, and lwhen the second side edge of the cuffis extended for luse the other side edge of the cuff extends into the sleeve.
Other objectsrof the invention will appear from the following description, Ireference being made to the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is a view showing a portion of a shirt sleeve having my improved cuff applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a View, partly in section, showing the construction of the cuff and itsattachment to the sleeve.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view, the parts being enlarged and extended to show their relationship to each other. f
The sleeve 1 is of conventional construction and has my new and improved cuff attached thereto in a novel relationship to achieve the objects stated. As shown, the cuff comprises a ply of material 2, and another ply of material 3, and a third ply of material 4. The end portion 5 of the sleeve extends between the adjacent edges of the plies .3 and4rand between the plies 2.and 3. The outer edges 6 of the-plies 2 and 3 are folded between the plies, one of said folded edges embracing theedge of the part 5 0f 1926.Y serial No. 110,317. v
the sleeve. The pliesV and the-folded por tions thereof and the extended portion 5 of the'sleeve are secured together by a lineof stitchingv 7., A ply 4of material 8 may be interposed between the plies 2 and 4 and extended beyond the inner edge of the ply 3 and between the ply 2 and the sleeve portion 5. The three parts 5y and8 may be secured together rby a line of stitching 9,
after which the line of stitching 10 is formed to attach together the interfolded edge 11 of the ply 3 and the plies 2, 3, 5.and' 8. f
, :The part 120i the sleevejconnecting the Y saine with the part 5 is between the adjacent.
edges of the plies 3 and 4 and forms a pivotal .connection permitting the cuff to be turned to extend either wearing edge of the cud for use. The edge 13 of the ply 4V adjacent to the sleeve pivot 12 is folded between the plies 4 and 8, and a line of stitching 14 passing through the plies 2, 4 and 8 and the folded edge 13 forms a permanent at.-
tachment. Y Y j,
The Vinwardly folded edges; 15 at the outer edges of the plies 2 andv 4 are secured together and'to the ply 8 by a line of stitch- Ving 16 which may be a continuation of the line of stitching: indicated as the ends of theculf at 17.
The number of plies may be varied to meet the requirements ofl a soft or a stiff cuff, as desired, and still leave the cuft'l reversible to expose the ply 2 as the outer ply of one wearing edge of the cu and the ply 4 as the outside of the other wearing edge of passing along the cuff. Reversal of the cuff is obtained by turning the cud upon the pivot portion 12 of the sleeve to place the wea-ring edge of the cuff, comprising the plies 2 and 3, within the cuff and extending the other wearing edge of the cuff, comprising the plies 2 and 4, to position for use, thus exposing the ply 4. f f
The specific construction'and method of turning and attaching the plies at v12 together withV their length and extent may be varied within equivalent limits and the number of .plies may be optional to provide a cuff of different styles without departure from the nature and principle of the in vention.
Vhat-I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 'f v 1. The combination with a garment sleeve, of a reversible cuff having two wearing edges and comprising for one edge an inner ply und im outer ply of materiel confining the end oil the ele/eye between them end stitehed together and to the Sleeve at their outer edges und et the inner edge of Suid inner ply; :l third ply of nui, rial terminating short of the inner edge o't' seid inner ply und stitched to seid outer ply near the line on which the inner edge of seid inner ply stitched to the sleeve :is aforesaid; und a lille of miti-hee .Setfuring the outer edges of said third ply to the outer edges` out' seid outer ply.
f2. A, reversible eut-l' haring two wearing edges :ind Comprising u wide ply of ninterinl forming` the outer side ot the entf portion :it one Wearing edge oi' the enti', e seeond ply of nutteriail hiring its marginal edges secured to Seid wide ply und forming the inner side of eull portion of which said Wide ply ie' the outer side, u tliird ply ot' innteq rial ttched to Said tiret ply haring its ihnr edge terminating Short of the inner edge of Said second ply, und :irrenged to 'lorin the expoeed surface of the opposite wem-ing edge when the opifbsite edge ie used :is u. wearing edge, :1` fourth ply of materiel seemed between Suid `first und third plies :ind extending between said first and Said geeond plies, und ineens connecting said euif to n Sleeve and to said fourth ply.
3; il reversible cult' having two wearing edges eueh composed of u plurality of plies oi? inziteii-al und one of which pliesextelds the 'Full width ot' the euli from one Wearing edge to the other und two of which plies are relatively narrow :md extend `from the respective weiiring edge` and havetheir inner edges tL-errninaitixm short of euch other in emeed relationship :ind secured to Said full width ply by row ot' stitches for erich of erid nnrrdw plica neoinbnetion with e sleei'e having u portion thereof extending between the adjacent edges of Said narrow plies* endseeured to and forming a pivotal connection for the cuff. y
