'Application filed January 15, 1926.
This invention relates to thread-severing mechanism for automatic looms; and has for .its object to provide in such a loom a cutter to be operated by action of the loom for severing the trailing thread of the spent bobbin each time a change of the bobbinis effected.
A further object of the invention is to mount a cutter on the replenishing side of the loom and 'to provide means whereby the replenishing mechanism will move the cutter to open position and the action of the lay will close the cutter to sever the thread.
A. still further object of the invention is to provide means in the cutter for clamping and holding the severed end of the thread leading from the selvageto prevent this thread from being carried baclr into the weft by further action of the shuttle.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will rbe more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

It is found in the practical operation of automatic looms particularly the drop box 'type for weaving different colorsyof advan- 'tage to provide cutter which is located close to the selvage so as to cut the spent weft just previously to the transfer of the bobbin and to so shape the cutter device as to clamp and hold the severed thread between the shuttle bei; and the selvage to prevent the end from being drawn baci; into ther cloth by further action of the shuttle, the cutters being so shaped that they will discharge the thread held between them upon the next opening action ofthe i'novable blade. Cooperating with this move the hired blade 35 which is provided with a hole 36 through which the pivot lin 2i also passes, a nut 62 thereon serving to bind this blade in set position. rlhis blade is provided with a shearing edge w1 ich cooperates with the edge 29 ot `the movable blade to shear the thread and this lined blade is also provided with a rearwardly-entending bearing portion 38 which also extends into the opening 26 in the otset 25 ot the arin l2. In order to vadjust the shearing action or this fixed blade to properly cooperate with the movable blad-c, l have provided an adjusting screw 39 which is threaded through the arm l2 with its inner end resting against the inner surface of this blade 35st its lower edge 40, see Figure 3, whereby the inward adjusting oit this screw 39 serves to tip the blade on itspivot pin 27 to cause a'close'r shearing action of the cooperating ' shearing edges 29 and 37. During a regular rweaving action oi the loom the movable blade is held in closed position and in order to open this blade at the proper time, l have connected its operating handle 34, Vas shown diagraniniatically in Figure 2, to the arm 4l oit the wett replenishing mechanism by the connectingv rod 42 and the extension lever arm 43, whereby when the usual ieeler mechanism 44 -linds an `exhausted bobbin in the shuttle 45, the' abutment pin 46 is caused to remain beneath the lever 47, whereby upon the nextdown-` ward movement ot this lever, through action olcam 48 and connecting rod 49, this .lever` eng-ages 'this abutment 46 and throughith connector 50 tips the 'tree end oi" lever l, Whlch 1S DlVOted on shaft 52, upwardly thusv `Figure 2, which swinging movement opens ine lav now comes on its beating-up il. c,-
