To all whom it may} concern Be it known that l. Jonx R. FrrTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVorcester, in the county of \Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and, useful Imprm'ements in Filling Thread Cutting Mechanism for \Vcftdxeplenishing Looms, of. which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to filling thread cutting mechanism for weft replenishing looms, in which there is a magazine for superposed bobbins or filling carriers, and transferring mechanism, to transfer a bobbin from the magazine into'the active shuttle to take the place of the substantially exhausted l)()l)l)l11 in said shuttle.

In the accompanying drawings, 1 is the loom side or end frame, 2 the breast beam, on which is supportedthe magazine 4. In the hub 4 on the magazine at, see Fig. 3, is supported a stud 5, secured therein In this instance by a setscrew 5". On the stud 5 is loosely mounted an angle lever 6. one end of which has a plate 6 thereon with an elongated opening 6 therein, to receive a bolt 7 which secures the arm of the angle lever 6 to the extension 7 Ont-he t'ansi'errer lever 7 shown by broken lines in Figs.,1 and 2. The transferrer lever? carries a transferrer 7 on the end thereof, to engage the bobbin in the shuttle in the usual way.

All of the above' mentioned parts, the, extension 7 0n the transferrer lever 7,
may be of the usual and well known con- 'struction.
I will now describe my improvementsin filling thread cutting mechanism.
12 is ii stand secured to the inner side of the breast beam 2. The stand 12 has a boss 12, see F ig. 3, in which is secured, by aset screw 13". a stud 13, having loosely mounted thereonthe hub ll of a two-armed lever 14.. The upper end ofthe lever 14 carries a stud 15, on which is loosely mounted one end of a connector 16; the other endof said connector 16 is loosely mounted on a stud 16, on the end of a downwardly extending arm of the angle lever 6, see Figs. 1 and 2. The lower end of the lever 14 is enlarged or flattened, as shown-at 14-", Figs. 1 and 2. A plate 17 is secured upon the upper side of the lay 8, see Figs. 1 and 2; the plate 17 except has an undercut groove or recess there1n,ex-
tending transversely of the lay, to loosely receive and guide a sliding bar 18.- The bar 18 has its engaging or operating end of curved or cam shape, as shownat 18, Figs.
- and 8, and said bar with this cam shaped end may be termed a cam. The inner end of the sliding cam bar 18 carries a headed stud 18, which extends through an elongated slot 19 in the upper end of a lever 19. The lever 19 has a hub 19 loosely mounted on a stud 20' on the arm 20, secured to the rear side of the lay 8. On the lower end of file lever 19, is a stud 19", which has loosely mounted thereon a rod head 21, and to which is adjustably secured the'threaded end of a enlarged end 14: on the lever 14. v
spring 24 acts to hold the rod 22 in its outward normal position, as shown in Fig. 1;
A stand 25 is securedupon the upper side of the breast beam'2, said stand acts to support the filling thread clamping and cutting mechanism.
On the stand 25 is a stud 25, see Fig. 4, on which is loosely mounted the hub 26 of a lever 26. To the lever 26 is secured one blade 27 of the cutter, forming the movable part of the cutter. The stationary blade 28 of the cutter is secured to the stand 25, in this instance by screws 28, see Fig. 4. On a stud orpin 25", on the upper-part of the stand 25, is loosely mounted the hub 29 of a lever 29. The lever 29 at its lower end is adapted to bear against and engage a ing 26" on the lever 26, see Fig. 5, and through the engagement thereof with said lug 26 cause the movement of said lever 26 and the opening of the movable blade 27 of the cutter, as shown in Fig. 5.
A spring 30 is secured at one end, in this instance by screws 30,-to the stand 25, and bears at its free end against the lever 26, and acts to return said lever 26 to its normal position, shown in Fig. 4.
The clamping device for clamping the filling thread, consists of a movable clamping jaw 31, having its hub 31 loosely mounted on a screw .32 on the stand 25, Fig. 6. On the pin 25 is loosely mounted the hub 33 of a second lever 33. The lever 33 has a pin 33' thereon, which extends through an opening 25 in the vertical part of the stand 25, see Fig. '7, and engages'an extension 31 on the clamp jaw 31, and acts to open said jaw, or move it away from the stationary part of the clamp 25* on the stand .25, when the lever 33 is moved in one direction, as shown in Fig. 7.
A spring 84 is secured at one end on the stand 25, and bears at its other free end against the extension 31 on the clamp aw 81, and acts to close said jaw and return it to its normal position.
The sliding bar 18 has a pin 18" extending up therefrom, which pin is adapted to engage and move forward the filling thread 11, between the clamping jaws, and-the cutting blades, on the forward movement of the cam 18.
The cam bar 18' has a recess on one edge, 18, see Fig. 8, to receive the lever 33, and also has a recess 18" on its other ed e, to receive the lever 29, after the ends 0? said levers have passed by the cam shaped oper= 'ating end 18 of the bar 18, allowing the spring 34: to operate to move down the clamping jaw 31 and clamp the filling thread 11', which has been moved between the clamping jaws, and also allowing the spring 30 to act to move down the movable blade 27, to out the filling thread between said blade 27 and the blade 28.
From the above description in connection with the drawings, the operation of my improvements in filling cutting mechanism will be readily understood-by those skilled in the art.
In the normal operation of the loom the transferrer arm 7 will be in its elevated position, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, and the lever 14 will be in the position shown in Fig. 1, and said lever will not engage the enlarged end 22 on the rod 22, as the lay moves forward. clamping mechanism will be in closed position, as shown in Figs. 4 and 6. On the substantial exhaustion of the bobbin in the active shuttle, the transferrer mechanism is put into operation in the usual and well known way, to transfer a new bobbin from the magazine into the active shuttle, and the downward movement of the transferrer arm 7 will, through the angle lever 6, and

connector 16, move the lever 14 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2, the engagement of the enlarged head 22 on the rod 22, with the enlarged end 14 on the lower end of the lever 14, will rock the lever 19, and move forward the cam or bar 18, and the forward end of the bar 18, which is of curved or cam shape, will engage with the downwardly extending levers 29 and 33, and move said lovers toward the breast beam, and cause the cutting blade 27 to be opened, as shown in Fig. 5, and also the clamping jaw 31 to be opened, as shown in Fig. 7. The pin 18 on the cam bar 18 engaging with the filling thread 11 will carry said filling thread between the cutting blades, and also between the clamp- 1,oo1,2 oa 8 ing jaws, The continued movement of the cam-bar 18 toward the breast. beam will allow the ends ofthe levers29 and33 to pass into the recesses 18 and 18, respectively, in the edges of'the bar 18. The lever 33 passing firstinto the recess 18, will allow the spring 34 to act to move down as clamp- M ing aw- 31 to clamp the filling thread while it is being; severed,.and the passing of'the end of thelever 29 into the recess 18", will allow the spring 30 to act to close the cutting blade 27, upon the filling thread 11, to sever the filling thread.
Afterthe filling thread has been severed,
the movement of the laywill carry the cam bar 18- away from the breast beam, and through the action of the spring 24 the bar -18 will be returned to its normal position,
and also the rod 22, as shown in Fig. 1. The withdrawalof the bar 18 will cause the lovers 29 and 33 to pass out of the recesses 18" and 18, and said levers will return to their normal closed positions, as shown in Figs. t and 6, all as will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.

construction of my improvements may be varied if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a filling thread cutting mechanism, clamping jaws, and cutting blades, on a stationary part of the loom adjacent the magazine, and means to operate, on the operation of the transferring mechanism, said clamping jaws and said cutting blades, said 2; In a filling thread cutting mechanism,
