Description
D. CILLEY.
Lifting-Jack.
N0.165,713, Patenfedluly 20,1875.
ATEN'I FFICE,
DAVID CILLEY, OF MILO, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LlFTlNG-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,7 l 3, dated July 20, 1875; application iled May 17, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID GILLEY, of Milo, in the county of Piscataquis, State of Maine, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lifting-Jacks, of which the following is a description sufficientlvT full, clear,
and exact to enable any person skilled in the A sists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, by which a simple, cheap, and ef fective device of this character is produced.
rIhe nature and operation of my invention will be readilyT obvious to all conversant with such matters from the following,I description: In the drawing, A represents the 'body or main bar of the jack, which may be supported t0 a beam, by the link z, and is provided with the gravit-ating retaining-link I. Fitted to slide in the guide or ways K there is an auxiliary bar, H, provided with downwardly-inclined serrations or teeth J and the link L, and pivoted at F to the bar A there is a bifureated horizontal lever, E, provided with the gravitating lifting -link G. Two drums or wheels, B B, are journaled upon the bar H,
and provided with the hand-lever C, and eX- tending from the outer end of the lever E over these drums are two cords, D D, the ends of which are secured at m.
In the use of my improvement the Weight or body to be raised is first firmly attached to the link L, the bar A being secured to the beam m, or any proper support. rIhe hand-lever C is then elevated, as shown by the dotted lines, permitting the outer end of the lever E to drop, and the link G to fall downwardly and engage with one of the teeth of the bar H. The lever G is then depressed, as shown, elevating` the lever E, link G,.and bar H, the link l at the same time falling and engai-ging the serrated edge of the bar H to hold"y or retain the saine While the link G is caused to descend again to repeat the operation, as before.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is The improved lifting-jack described, consisting of the bar A, provided with the link I, the bar H, provided with the teeth J, the lever E, provided with the link Gr, and the drums B B,
provided with the lever C and cords D D, all l combined and arranged to operate subst-antially as and for the purpose set forth and specified.
DAVID GILLEY.
