Application fied December 1a, was. Serial No. 153,811.
My present invention relates to improvements in condiment holders adapted for containing and dispensing a plurality of seasoning elements, as pepper and salt. The
holder is designed to be inverted for use, and
is provided with a plurality of compart ments and a rotatable head having a pen forated portion, and designed for selective use with the compartments.
Means are provided for rotating or oscillating the perforated head to selected positionfand the device as a whole is simple in construction and operation and presents a neat and attractive appearance.
The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements or parts as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one complete example of the.
physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and arranged according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical a giplication of the principles of. my invention.
Figure l is a view in elevation of a pepper and salt shaker embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged. detail vertical sectional view at line 22 oi? Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the holder at line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and i Fig. l is a transverse or horizontal sectional view at line e-i of Fig. 3.
In the preferred form ofmy invention, I utilize a holder 1 of metal or other suitable material, and preferably tapered with a larg-' or end forming the base or bottom. A closure 2 is used at the base of the holder, and this closure is in the form of a circular plate inset within the lower end of the holder and removable therefrom in order to fill the holder with the pepper and salt, or other condiments. The bottom or closure 2 is provided with an annular flange 3 which is exteriorly threaded and screwed into the opening at the bottom of the holder, and the edge 4 of this flange is curled over or curved to fit over the edge of the holder and for a support for the device.
At the smaller end of the holder, I provide an oscillatable head 5 and one-half of the area of this head is perforated, the perforations being indicated at 5 in Fig. 3. This head is in the form of a circular plate to close the smaller end of the holder and it is retained in an annular flange 6 which forms a groove 7 at the edge of the holder for the reception of the circular edge of this oscillatable or rotatable head.
The holder is longitudinally divided by a centrally located partition 8 and two compartments as 9 and 10 are thus formed in which two condiments as pepper and salt maly separately be contained.
"hrough the longitudinal center of the holder, a tubular stem 11 extends, this stem being elliptical in cross sectionand located at the center of the partition 8, an annular shoulder 13 is formed at the base of the stem 11, as seen in Fig. 2. Within the tubular stem, a plunger 14.- is reciprocable, and nonrotatable. This plunger also is of tubular formation, and is provided with a reduced push pin lfiwhich projects through an opening 1.6 in the holder bottom 2, and a shoulder 17 on the plunger bears against the bottom 2 of the holder as seen in Fig. 2.
At the upper end, the plunger is provided with areduced pin portion 18 and a shoulder 19 is termed. complementary to the shoulder 13 of the tubular stem. A spring 20 is coiled about the pin 18 and interposed between the shoulders 13 and 19. Two spiral grooves 2i are provided in the exterior of the reduced pin 18, and these grooves coact with a pair of complementary lugs 22 located at diametrically opposite points in the open center of the rotatable head 5, and a cap 23 retains the i on this grooved extension grooved pin within the head,
By removing the bottom 2, the two com partments may be filled with the condiments, and then the bottom of course is threaded to closed position. When using the device, one condiment may be dispensed from the holder when the latter is inverted, and then by pressing with the linger on the push pin 15, the cover or head 5 is oscillated or rotated through an arc of 180 bringing the perforated portion of the head beneath the other compartment of the holder, and when retained in this position the condiment may be dispensed as usual. Vhen pressure is released from the push pin, the spring 20 automatically returns the rotatable head 5 to normal position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y 1. The combination in a condiment holder having a pair of interior compartments and an exterior annular flange forming a groove of a head rotatable in the groove and separated compartments, of a tubular stem 10 provided with a perforated portion, a tubuin the partition, a plunger in the stem, a lar stem within the holder, a spring pressed reduced extension on the plunger having plunger longitudinally reciprocable in the a spiral groove, an exterior retaining cap 5 stem, and co-acting means on the head and on the extension, and a guide lug on the plunger for rotating the head. V rotatable head for co-action with the groove. 15
