ATTACHMENT FOR SEPARABLE BUTTONS.
Application ined Marches, 1925. serial No. 17,742.`
The purpose of the invention is to provide a device to be used with buttons of the character wherein a threaded stud is provided on one member and a securing nut threadingly engaged with the stud, so that the nutwill be insured remaining in attached position and the protruding end oi the stud guarded l to preclude its wearing a hole in the apparel. lith this purpose in view7 the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts oi' which a preferred embodlment 1s illust ated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is an edge elevational view showing a separable button with the device attached. A
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view through the structure of Figure l.
Figure 3 is afront view of therdevice. Figure 4; is a rear view. Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view similar to Figure 2, the button, however, being shown in elevation.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 6-6 of Figure l.
Designed for use in connection with buttons particularly of the emblem form, such as that indicated. at l in the 'drawings7 the invention serves as a means :for precluding retrograde movel'i'icnt of' the nut 2 when attached to the stud 3 with which it is threadingly engaged. The device consists ot a cap 4L ol elastic material and serving to completely enclose the nut 2 with which it is engaged by stretching it over the nut, the latter entering the cap through the central opening on the front face of the latter.
When attached, the 'front face ot' the cap bounding the opening 5 engages the rear tace ot' the lapel 6 or other portion of the garment to which the button is attached and its frietional contact prevents turning of the cap, the adherence ot the cap to the nut preventing relative tnrning movement between the two. At the .same time the rear wall oi the cap acts as a protector to shield the protruding extremity of' the stud 3 and thus prevents its wearing a hole in the garment.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as nei7 and useful is: In combination with a. button having a stud for penetration through a piece of Wearingr apparel, a nut threadingly engageable with the stud at the remote side of the apparel, and a cap enclosing the nut and formed with an opening for the passage of the stud, the capbeing of a material having a high coefficient of friction and the peripheral edges bounding said opening engaging the apparel within the area covered by the button, the rear iaee of the cap serving as a shield for the inner end of the stud.
