The support tor the outer end of the spindle is identical with that shown in the aforesaid Lanciault patent the lay having a threaded bore 20 formed in a block 21 cared to the lay end. The spindle 15 projects into one end of the bore 20 and the holding screw 22 is threaded into the other end oisaid bore, a lock not 23 being employcd to check accidental movement of screw 22. The latter is in tight contact with the left hand end of the spindle 15 and is the means by which longitudinal movement of the spindle may he effected. In assembling the device the spindle, which may have both ends thereof square as indicated in the drawings and without the customary taper on one end, is inserted through the bore 20, as previously described, and into the cylindrical bore 3i of the clamping member 3 The screw 22 is then threaded into the bore 20 and forced against the left hand end of the spindle 15. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a very simple means for securing both ends of the picker spindle with respect to the lay, the spindle being formed with square ends and being free from the customary conical tip usually provided on the inner ends of the spindles. It will be seen that the screw 22 serves not only to prevent displacement of the spindle to the left, but is also the means by which the clamping member is forced into close holding'engagem'ent with the spindle.
Having thus described my invention it will be apparent that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit bore to receive one end of the spindle, a plurality of independently movable and slightly compressible elements formed with the member and lying around the bore, and a screw threaded into a part of the lay and engaging the other end of the spindle and capable of moving the said spindle in a direction toward the member to cause said inclined surfaces to force the slightlv compressible elcments against the spindle and hold the same, said screw thereby preventing loosening of both ends of the spindle.
2. In a loom having a lay provided with an opening having inclined sides, a spindle clamp extending into the opening and having the outer surface thereof inclined to conform to the opening in the lay, said clamp having a bore therein, a. plurality of slightly resilient elements formed integrally with the clamp surrounding and defining the bore, a picker spindle having one end projecting into the bore and means acting on the other end of the spindle to force the clamp into the opening in the lay to force the elements against the spindle to hold the latter in place.
