'.lhis invention relates to improvements in filling thread cutters for weft replenishing looms and it is the principal object of the invention to provide improved actuated means for the cutter to the end that the same may be caused to operatewith the minimum number of parts.
Multicolor "weft replenishing mechanisms of the type in common use employ a top shaft and a shuttle feeler, the top shaft being rocked just prior to transfer for the purpose of placing the transfer latch in the path of a bunter on the lay. Said top shaft is also attached hy means oi a connecting rod to the shuttle feeler to cause the latter to move into the path of the shuttle immediately prior to transfer, the purpose of this construction being to ,prevent transfer if the shuttle be improperly placed with respect to the magalzine.
In co-pending application Ser. N o. 127,695
died by Chevrette there is shown a thread` cutter mounted onia shuttle feeler and actuated by a rod the lower end of which is con nected to the pivotal jaw of the cutter and the upper end of which is fast with respect to the magazine. Due to the varying shapes of ditlerent frames it is a matter of practical diiliculty to provide a support or holder for the upper end of the cutter actuating rod which Will be applicable to all styles of inagaaine looms. lt is an important object of my present invention to provide means for attaching a cutter operating rod to the aforesaid connecting link between the top shaft of the magazine and the shuttle feeler. I find that this connecting linlt moves down- 'tvardly a short distance but this movement is not suiiicient to interfere with the correct operation of the cutter.
In certain mountings for the upper' end of the cutter rod provision is made for securing only one end of the holder for the rod eo that there isa possibility that the holder may become loose. It is a further object of my invention to provide a holder for the cutter operating rod which shall be held at tivo spaced points so that it` Will always be in proper-position and I achieve this result by employing the aforesaid connecting linlil as a support for the holder.
1With these and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arand set forth in the claims.

.Referring to the drawings I have indicated a loom frame to Which is secured a weft replenishing mechanism 11 of the multicolor type. Said mechanism has mounted on the upper portion thereof a shaft 12 which is given an oscillation just prior to transfer by mechanism not shown hut well understood to raise the transfer latch into the path of a hunter not shown but carried by the lay L. A shuttle feeler carrier 13 is pivotally mounted on stud 14 lined With respect to the replenishing mechanism and having an arm l5 which has pivotal connection at 16 with the lower end of a connecting link 17 the upper end of which is connected to an arm 18 lsecured to the shaft 12. A second arm 19 of the carrier 13 has bolted thereto a shuttle feeler 20 having its lower edge curved as at 21 to be engaged either by the Wall of the shuttle S or the boi; hach B.
Under normal conditions the shuttle feeler carrier 13 is in the position shown in Fig. 1 with the connecting link 17 raised. Prior to the time of transfer the link 17 will be dcpressed by a slight oscillation of shaft 12 to move the shuttle fceler to the position shown in Fig. ll. If a shuttle be misplaced it will engage the under edge 21 of the shuttle feeler and restore the carrier and shaft 12 to normal position, thus preventing transfer. The matter thus far described i; a common construction and may he the saine as set forth in Patents Nos. 1,022,108 and 1,030,748. The cutter unit is mounted on the shuttle ifeeler and comprises a cutter jaw pivoted to said feeler asiat 31 and having a cutter blade 3Q whichcooperate-s with a cutting edge 33 ground on the shuttle feeler 20. Said cutter jaw has pivotal connection as f at 34 with the lower end of an eXtensible and adjustable operating rod 35. A clam 36 may be secured to the shuttle feeler and iave the lower rportion thereof toward the selvage of thecloth offset as at 37, Fig. 2, to lie` against the blade 32. The cutter may be substantially the same asset fort-h in the said copending application Ser. No. 127,695 filed by Chevrette.
Myinvention relates more particularly to the means for supportingthe upper end ofV the operating rod and in carrying my improvements into effect I provide a two part clamping holder indicated generally at and having members 41 and 42 lying on oppcsite sides of the connecting link 17. -Sald members are provided with facing V- shaped notches 43 and member 42 may be vprovided with a stud 44. Screws 45 may be employed for securing the two members together and clamping them tightly to the link 17 and the stud 44 has pivotal connection yWith Vthe upper end of the rod 35. When it lis desired tovary the movement of the cutter jaw 30 the screws 45 maybe loosened and the holder member 40 either raised or lowered along the link 17 .From the foregoing it will be seen that I have made use of the ordinary equipment `of a multi-color `weft replenishing mechanism to afford a support to the upper end of a cutter operating rod and that said rod is held at the lower end by the shuttle feeler and vat the upper end by arm 18, so that there isnodanger of the stud 44 changing its positionin such a way as to interfere with the `proper operation of the cutter. It will v'further'be seen that the holderp40 may be moved along the link 17 and that the operating rod 35 may be extendedzto the proper length to effect correct operation of the cutter. Also, it will'be seen that vertical adjustment of yholder 40 and adjustment of link 35 permit easy changing either of the stroke of the cutter or the movement of the shuttle feeler.
,Having thus described my invention it will .be apparent that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to theV details herein disclosed, but whatI claim is:
1. In a thread cutting mechanism for a weft replenishing loom having a shuttle feeler normally outof the path` of the shuttle, a part to bemoved prior to transfer and a -link between said part and the shuttle feeler whereby7 the shuttle feeler is moved into the path lof the shuttle prior'to transfer-by rea- 'son of said link, in combination.-a filling 'thread cutter pivotally mounted on the shuttlefeeler, and an operating rod connected to the cutter and said link and effective when the shuttle feeler is moved in the path of the shuttle to open the cutter and to close the cutter when the shuttle feeler is restored to normal position.
2. In a thread cutting mechanism for a weft replenishing loom having ashuttle feeler normally out of the path of the shuttle, a part to be moved prior to transfer and a link between said part and the shuttle feeler whereby the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle .prior to transfer by reason of said link, in combination, a thread cutter movably mounted on the shuttle feeler and-normally closed, and an operating rigid connection between the aforesaid klink and said cutter effective to open the cutter when the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle and also effective to close the cutter when the shuttle feeler is restored to normal position.
3. In a thread cutting mechanism for a weft replenishing loom having a shuttle feeler normally out of the path of the shuttle, a part to be moved prior to transfer and a link between said part and the shuttle feeler whereby the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle prior to transfer yby reason of said link, in combination, a thread cutter mounted on the shuttle feeler for pivotal movement relatively thereto, an operatingmember attached to the thread cutter, and connections between the operating member and the aforesaid link, said operating member effective when the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle to open said cutter and also veffective when said shuttle feeler .is restored to normal position to close the cutter.
4. In a thread cutting mechanism for `a weft replenishing loom having a shuttle feeler normally out of the path of the shuttle,
a part to be moved prior to transfer and a link between said part and the shuttle feeler whereby the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle prior to transfer by reason of said link, in combination. a cutter pivotally mounted on the shuttle feeler, an adjustable device mounted on the link, and operating connections for the cutter interposed between the latter and the device on Vthe link, said operating connections being effective when the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle to open the cutter and effective also when the shuttle feeler is moved out of the path of the shuttle to close said cutter and give thel same cutting movement.
5. In a thread cutting mechanism for a weft replenishing loom having a shuttle feel- Ver normally out lof -thcppath of the shuttle,
a part to be moved prior to transfer and a link between said part and the shuttle feeler whereby the shuttle feeler is moved into the path of the shuttle prior to transfer by fea-son of said link, in combination, a thread cutter pivotally mounted on the shuttle feelei', a block removably and zidjustably held to tbe aforesaid link, and an operating member interposed between the block and the cutter,
said operating member being effective when the shuttle 'eeler is moved to shuttle feeling position to open the cutter and effective when the shuttle feeleiis moved out of the shuttle feeling position to give the cuttei` a lo cutting movement.
