In co-pending application Ser. No. 127,695 there is shown a thread cutter mounted on a shuttle feeler of the type ordinarily employed in multi-color Weft replenishing mechanisms suchas shown in Patent No. 1,030,748. The
cutter shown in said application comprises a jaw pivoted to the shuttle feeler and connected to an operating rod the upper end of which is pivotally connected to a fixed stud. In said application the stud is held by a bracket secured to the loom frame and it has been found in adapting this form of cutter to various styles of magazines that considerable variation exists in the forms of loom frames used. Up to the present time it has been necessary'to provide a different kind of bracket for each loom frame to which the cutter is applied and it has been found necessary to make a large number of brackets. It is an lmportant object of my present invention to provlde a holder for the upper end of the cutter operating rod to be mounted on a part of the magazine independently of the loom frame so that one holder will suflice for a number of different loom constructions.
It is also true that considerable variation eXists in the width of multi-color weft replenishing mechanisms, some of these devices being designed for looms of two colors while others are of sufficient width to accommodate six different kinds of bobbins. It is a further object of my present invention to provlde a,holder for the cutter operating rod which shallbe adjustable on a portion of the weft replenishing mechanism so that the same holder may be employed for magazines of different widths. In this connection it may'also be stated that magazines for four colors are not always of the same width, as those made for cotton blankets are ordinarily wider than those made for gingham looms due to the increased diameter of the bobbin rendered necessary by the coarseness of the filling used in weaving blankets. j

Referring to the'drawings the loom frame 10 has mounted thereon a foot 11 of a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism of the type set forth in the aforesaid Patent No. 1,080,748. Said mechanism accommodates a plurality of vertical stacks of bobbins which are discharged by a transferrer T into the shuttle S held on the lay L. Multicolor weft line 2--2 of replenishing mechanisms use a shuttle feeler of the type set forth in patent to Ryon No. 1,022,108 and also a so-called color slide, the office of which is to select a bobbin of the color corresponding to the depleted shuttle. Both the shuttle feeler and the color slide operating lever are ordinarily mounted on the same casting and I have shown a similar construction herein. The forward stud 14 has mounted thereon a shuttle feeler holder 18 having pivotal connection with the lower end of an upright rod 19 and giving support to a pressed metal shuttlefeeler 20 the lower end of which is curved as at 21 to cooperate either with the front wall of misplaced shuttles or the curved upper part of the box back 22 as the lay advances. Normally the shuttle feeler is in the raised position shown in Fig. 1, but; at the time of transfer mechanisms not shown herein but well'understood and set forth in the aforesaid Patent No. 1,022,108 operate to lower the rod 19, thus placing the curved portion 21 of the shuttle feeler in the path of the advancing lay and shuttle. If the shuttle be misplaced it will engage the shuttle feeler and restore the latter to its raised position, thus lifting rod 19 to prevent transfer. Thematter thus far described is commonly employed in practicallyall multi-color weft replenishing mechanisms.
The color mechanism, as previously stated, is substantially the same as that set forth in the Chevrette application and comprises a cutter jaw pivoted as at 31 to the shuttle feeler and having a rearwardly extending cutter blade 32 indicated in dotted lines in Fi l; A thread clamp 33 is secured to the shuttle feeler and is held by its own resilience against that face of the cutter blade 32 adjacent the fabric. Thecutter jaw 80 has an upwardly extending arm 3 1 which has pivotal attachment with an adjustable cutter opcrating rod 35 provided with a turnbuckle 36 by means ofwhich the length of said rod may be adjusted. The matter thus far described forms no partof; my invention and may be as set forth 111 said patents and application.
In carrying my invention into effect I extend the rear stud 15 inwardly toward'the cloth and secure thereto a rod holder having a hub 51 thereto into which the extending in Fig. 3, said stud having an enlarged head 55 which furnishes abearing for the upper grod head 56 formed on the rod 35.
In operation the parts are normally in position shown in Fig. 1 and at the time of transfer the rod 19 will be depressed, as previously stated,-this action being accompanied by an opening of the cutter jaw 30 due to the fact that the upper end of theroc is fixed. When the shuttle feeler is raised as the lay reaches its front position the jaw 30 will be restored to normal position, thus cutting the thread and placing the latter between the clamp 33 and the cutter blade 32.
1 It will be readily apparent that by adjusting the position of the holder 50 with respect to stud 15 the, upper end of the rod holder can be given theproper position irrespective of the width of the magazine or the distance 5 between the center about which the cutter jaw 80 moves and the location of stud 15.

In the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple holder for the upper end of the cutter operating rod, said holder being adjustable angularly and longitudinally along stud 15 and stud 54 being adjustable in the slot 53, the turnbuckle 86 providing further means for adjusting the rod 35. By means of the construction set forth the assembled structure is mounted on the carrier 13 and is capableof a wide range of adjustspect to the carrier, a thread cutting unit mounted on the shuttle feeler, arod holder adjustably mounted on the carrier to assume a plurality of angular positions relatively to the carrier, and an operating rod interposed between a portion of the cutting unit and the holder, said rod being effective to operate the unit with respect to the shuttle feeler as the latter moves pivotally with respect to the carrier.

In a thread cutter and clamp for looms, a carrier secured to the weft replenishing mechanism, a stud extending from said carrier, a shuttle feeler pivotally mounted on the stud, a thread cutting unit mounted on the Shuttle feeler, pivotal movement with respect thereto, a rod holder on the carrier fixed with respect to the stud but capable of assuming a plurality of adjusted angular positions with respect to said stud, and a. rod connecting the holder and the thread cutting unit to operate the latter as the shuttle feelcr moves about the stud as a pivot.
