jREvoLviNe TABLE Tor.
Application filed March 17, 1926,` Serial No. 95,307.
This inventionfrelates Ito certainnew and' useful improvements in revolving table tops and hasy for one of its objects to prof vide a table structure embodying astationf ary outer table top section with a` centrally positioned revoluble smaller tableftonsea tion so that articles -of, foodor thelike placed on the rotatable table topy section may be moved to positions in proximity of dillerent points fon they stationarytable top section to be accessiblewithout the necessity of requiring the passing of foodsior the like.'
A further object ofthe invention isnto provide a revolving table top for a relatively larger stationary table top section with a plurality of gripping devices to effect rotation of the table top with each gripping device constituting atemporary lock structure for holding the rotatable table top against movement while a person is removing art-icles of food or the like'y therefrom, each gri`pping devicebeing further constructed and designed to indicate when the same is in its table top locking position.
With the above and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the revolving table top constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the same,
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view.
taken on line 3*.5 of Fig. 2 showing the ball bearing race interposed betweenthe stationary and rotatable table top sections,
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1 showing one of the gripping and operating devices for the revolving table top section in its upward tensioned position, and
Figure 5 is a detail sectional View, similar to Fig. 4 showing the gripping devicein its lowered locked position engaging the stationary table top section to hold the revolving table top section against movement.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, and particularly to Figs. 'r
l and 2 there is illustrated a. table embodyingrafstandard 1 carried by floor feet 2 and having the usual cross braces 3 at its upper f end for supporting ya stationarytable top section 4. i As shown AVin 3, 41 and 5, thestationary table top section 4 is provided withan annular bearing ball race 5 in which bearingy f balls 6 are freely mounted, while the rotat-rk able. table' top section 7 positioned lcentrally of the stationary table section 4 is rotatably retained. in position by the pin 8 passing therethrough and anchored in the table se c-y tion '4 and Standard 1. the rotatable table top 7 is providedwith an annular groove Qregistering with the groove 5in the table top 4 with the bearing balls()l working in the lopposed grooves as shown'in Figs.4and 'Y Gripping devices in theform of blocks are n carried by the rotatable table top 7 to effect rotation thereof and said blocks cooperate with the stationary table top 4 for ,holding therotatab'le table top against rotation when it isy desired to remove foods or the like from the rotatable table top and replace'the same, each block when in its table top locking position being retained in a low-ered position andy having a flat side withV a contrasting color that assumes a different position when locked to indicate which block is holding the table top against rotation. As
nally threaded for the reception of the screw ring 13 for purposes now to appear.
The gripping device or block 14 is ot the form and shape best illustrated in Figs. 1, 4 and 5 and has a flattened side 15 of a contrasting color, the block 14 being vertically slidable in the tubular member 11 and having an annular flange 16 engaging the flange 12 upon the tubular member 11. A coil spring 17V is interposed between the block flange 16 and the screw ring 13 for normally holding the block 14 at its limit of upward movement as shown in Fig. 4. The lower end of the block 14-is reduced in stepped formation to provide reduced annular body portions 18 and 19, the lower body portion 19 being moved into a keeper socket in the stationary table top section 4 The lower face .0f
to hold the revolving table top section against movement. A circular series of openings 2() is formed in the stationary table top 4 beneath the upper openings 10 and receives a lined sleeve 21 having a bayonet-shaped slot 22 opening at its upper end, a pin 23 carried by the bodyportion 19 of the block 14 being moved into the bayonet slot 22 for holding the block in its lowered position and locked to the table top section 4 to prevent rotary movement of the table top sect-ion 7. When the block 14 is lowered into its locked position, the same is partially rotated to dispose the flattened differently colored side 15 in another position with respect to the other or remaining upstanding blocks 14 so that it is easily determined which block is lowered for holding the rotatable table top section 7 again-st movement.
l/Vith a rotatable table top of this character, it is possible for persons to have access to a number of dishes of foods7 condi ments or the like, Without the necessity of requiring the passing of such article-s, and a. table of this character is especially serviceable in a cosmopolitan restaurant Where persons of different nationalities dine at the same table and being unfamiliar With dil'- lierent languages, can readily obtain the desired food or article on the table. Should a personfail to release the gripping block 14, other persons seated at the same table can readily tell which block is retaining the table top against rotation and can effect the release thereof.
Vhile there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the presentinvention, it is, nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be `made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope ot' the invention as claimed.
Vhat is claimed is In a table of the type described, a stationary table top and a revolving table top, means carried by the revolving table top for rotating the same and cooperating Wit-h the stationary table top Jfor holding the rotatable table top against movement, said means including a plurality of blocks each having a ilattened side of a contrasting color assuming a different position relative to the remaining blocks when in table top locking position, said table tops having a circular series oit' registering openings therein, a spring in each of the rotatable table top openings for holding the blocks upwardly spaced 'from the stationary table topr and a key and bayonet slot lock carried by each block and the Walls of the openings inthe stationary table top.
,In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
JOHN KREMENEK.
