IMPROVEMENT lN vHAMES.
.Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,249, dated July 6, 1875; application tiled May 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.: l
Be it knownvthat we, JAMES D. L. NUN- NELEE, ot' Centreville, in the county of Hickman andState ot' Tennessee, and- WELLING- TON H. KIRKSEY, of Booneville, in the county of Prcntiss and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in IIanIes5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification,
and to the letters and gures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my hame, and Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are detail views.
This invention has relation to attachments for haines; and the nature of our invention consists in certain novel devices, hereinafter described, whereby the fastenings for the npper haine-string can be easily adjusted for collars of different sizes, and for any other purpose.
In theannexed drawings, A designates a llame, which may be made wholly or in part ofwood or iron of the well-known form. B designates the ring or loop for thc reception ot' the upper name-strap C. D designates the hook to which the tug-chains are attached,
A recess, l), is made upper end, and a slot, b', is also made laterally through the haine from this recess b, which slot is equal in length to the lengtlr of the recess. In the recess b a plate, c, is rigidly se-` cured, having a number of notches, d, in its edge, which are equidistant from each other. B designates the loop, designed to receive through it the upper hamestrap,l which loop is formed on a iiat sha-nk, 6, having lugs e e formed en its end at right angles to it, which lugs form a fork adapted to enter into the notches d, andl to scrve, in combination With the lugs forming these notches, as means for iirmly holding the loop in any desi-red position, and allowing it to be readily adjusted up or down when the strap C is removed from it. The shank e 0f the loop E is passed through the slot b', and when the strap C is in its loop the whole are held firmly in place. What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a hame, the adj ustableloop B, constiiucted with a shank, e, and lugs e e', in combination with the notched plate c and strap C, substan tially as described.
- In testimony that We claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
