This invention relates to improvements in ported-upon andsecured. to a vframe'structure `V y including the .usual parallel vertically-spaced '-bars., to which #che flatters are attached,
The `present invention relates more .particy:ularly to v the mountifngsor attachments by means of which, the skeleton letters are Ysecured to the said sbars lof the structure` and .the .object of the invention lis fto provide -a mountingiof the kind whichis of cheap and .economical Construction, which enables the liront .ofthe fsi-gin.

Figure' 5 is a view representing on an enlarged scale a horizontal section through Figure 4 in a plane indicated by the line 5'-5 of Figure 4.
Referring now to that embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing :.10, 10 indicatespaced horizontal bars, in this case, angle bars, which form a part of the familiar open frame structure by which a roof or'the like sign is supported. 11 indi- Cates a skeleton letter which maybe of any familiar or usual construction. Said letter is mounted in erect position on the two bars 10, 10 with its back 12 attached to the bars 10, 10, by the mountings or attachments 13,

size and form of the letter. the letter I would.usually7 require'but two ,mountinga vwhile fa letter -such as ?Fw ould require.3,vand in the Case Qf an Etat-here would .be preterabl-yffsu'ch mountings. The letter is placedwith itsback toward the , bars 10, 10 and-the U-bolts 17 are engaged upon the Ser-eral bars l0, eSShOWfB. in the draw-v ings. The ,clamping plate is .then applied .to the legs E17 a, 17vb oft' the *.U-bolt-.and `the ynuts V-191are idrawn u-pagainst .theclamping plate 18 to :securelydraw the tongue f 16` ofi-.the clip .14 against the'face of ,the ,bar l0.. y Where angle bars are used in the supperting strue- Y a .spacing sleeve .2O ris ,usedollflle Yleg 17b between the clamping ,plate 18 .and therertcamange .o f the angle 4bar to take up the r'space 'between said ange and the clamping plate. Mani- .festly where channel bars are used, no such .sleevev would be required. When the clamping plates 18 of the several mountings used with a letter are drawn up as described, the said letter will be securely and fixedly attached to the bars 10 of the sign structure.
To obviate any danger of disengagement of the tongue of the clip 14 from the U-bolt 17, said tongue is provided with a hook 17 at its end to act as a stop to lock the hook against withdrawal from beneath the head of the U-bolt. Thus, in casethe clamping plate is not drawn up sufliciently tight to prevent relative movement between the tongueV of the lclip and the head of the U-bolt, lateral movement of the letter under in one direction by the shoulder 1Gb adjacent the base la and in the other direction by the hook 17 Figure l and Fi The `advantages of the invention will be manifest to those 'familiar with the art. The U-bolts may he loosely adjusted on the bars in the proximate required location prcliminary to the actual erection of the letters. Then, the letters may he placed against the bars and the clips engaged between the hea ds of the Ufbolt and the ars as illustrated in Figure 3after which the nuts 'L9 may he drawn up to rigidly clamp the clips to the bars. The letters may be takenV down and changed or renewed with equal facility. The U-bolts and clips remain on the bars ready for the attachment ot other letters (suc as are not required being readily rcmovahle) and in ease additional ones are required, on account oi the diti'erent letter used to occupy the saine space, they may be added as desired.`
It will be noted from an examination of ure l that the mountings 13 are entirely iidden from View by an observer in front of the letter, said mount` ings being disposed at the back of the` letter and Well Within the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the arts of the letters to which they are attac ed.
I claim as my invention:-
1. In a sign structure, in combination with a supporting bar thereon and a skeleton letter erected on said supporting structure, a clip fixed to the back of said skeleton letter, said clip comprising a base attached to said letter hack and a tongue offset from said base and extending parallel thereto, a U- bolt engaged on said tongue and straddling said bar, a clamping plate engaged upon said U-bolt, and clamping nuts for clamping said plate and tongue in rigid engagement with said bar. y i
2. In a sign structure, in combination with a supporting bar thereon and a skeleton letter erected on said supporting structure, a
clip fixed to thehaek ofsaid skeleton letter, said clip comprising a hase attached to said letter back and a tongue offset trom said base, extending parallel thereto and having a hook at `its end, a U-bolt engaged on" said tongue and straddling said bar, a clamping plate engaged lupon said U-bolt, and clamping nuts for clamping said plate and said tongue in rigid engagement with said har.
3. In a sign striuzture,in eomliination with a supporting angle har thereon and a skeleton letter erected on said supporting strueture, a clip fixed to the back ot said skeleton letter, said clip comprisinga base attached to said letter hack and a tongue odset from said baseand extending parallel thereto, a
U-bolt engaged on said tongueand straddling said bar, a clamping plate enffaged upon said U-holt,` clamping nuts tore amping said plate and tongue in rigid engage` i ment with said bar, and a spacing sleeve on one leg of said U-holt between `said clamping plate and said angle bar.
et. A mounting for skeleton sign letters comprising a clip adapted tor vattachment to the back of a letter, said clip comprising a base and a tongue offset from said base and extending parallel thereto, a supporting bar, a U-bolt adapted tor engagement upon said tongue and har` a clamping plate engaged `upon said U-holt, and clamping nuts on said U-bolt.
5. A mounting for skeleton sign letters comprising a clip adapted for attachment lto the back of a letter, said clip comprising a base and a tongue oisetfrom saidbase and extending parallel thereto, said tongue having a hook at its end, a supportingbar, a U-bolt adapted for engagement upon said tongue and bar, a clamping plate engaged upon said U-bolt, and clamping nuts on said U-holt. y y y In testimony that I claim the foregoing as rn invention, I aix my signature" this 2d day of March, 1926.
