It is a Figure lifter.
Figure Figure 1.
Figure 4 is feature of the invention to include a hook portion formed in conjunction with 20 the piercing point whereby metal caps can be easily and readily lifted from bottles to open the same. hook is such that the width of the lifter is used to advantage to stifien and form rigidity and strength to the caplifter.
My method includes means with the sharp burr same out of sheet material, so that the edges of the lifter are smooth about the entire outline of the same by cutting away one side of the end of the same point of a very sharp nature. struction dispenses rimental feature of which constitutes the piercing end of the lifter when the same was tumbled to polish and smooth the edge of the lifter in taking ofi the burr which is prevalent in all die cut articles formed from sheet material, such as my device.
In the drawings forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a side view of my lifter as it would appear in the ing the same 2 is a side view of is a section on the line 3-3 of HARRIS, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO BROWN AND BIGELOW,
OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION OF MINNESOTA.
METHOD OF MAKING BOTTLE-CA L IIE Application filed November 2, 1925., Serial No a method of maklifter.
In the drawi so as to increase the Figure 1. This needle like point, which may which the lifter bottle or other similar caps.
consists in a simple died out sheet material, having a The end 12 of and a recess rigidity and firmness to tween the hooks making of my lifter One end of the lifter with a round edge 10 is formed with a hole 11 in the cent-er by end 10 is formed ing an upwardly extending pointed edge 14:

13 which is cut away on the inclined angle 17 and forming a shoulder 18 adjacent the inclined edge 17 After the lifter A is blanked out as illus- 1 it is then placed in a tumbling machine with many other of these with a suitable tumbling mateabout in amanner so as to remove the sharp burr edge 19 which eX- entire edge of the lifter A when it is first blanked out as illustrated in After the lifters A have been tumbled suificiently this burr so as to form a rounded smooth edge such as 20 about the entire lifter A. a lifter which will not injure the hand and 19 is entirely removed This provides a household utility without of the operator, even though ssure is exerted against the handle portion of the lifter A. The end 10 constitutes the lever or handle end of the After the lifters A have been tumbled sufficiently to remove the burr 19 the portion first formation of blankfrom sheet material.
the finished cap 22 is cut away along the dotted lines 23 so as to provide an inclined angular edge 24 and a shoulder 25, which edge 24 and shoulder 25 are similar to the edgel? and shoulder 18, in the first blanking operation formed the portion oint in the end 12. This pperation, cutting away 22, prov des a sharp needle like 26 which inclines in the direction of tting die that 26 is drawn out to a sharp needle like point.
The shoulder 28 is formed projecting forward from the hook 18 which is adapted to rest againstthe top of a metal cap when the hook point let engages the cap edge to lift the same. This provides the prying action which is necessary in the lifting of a bottle cap of this nature.
Thus the method of making my bottle cap lifter constitutes the means of blanking out in the desired formation the lifter A illustrated in Figure 1, and then in tumbling these lifters to remove the sharper edge 19 after which the portion 22 is cut awa Y provide the piercing point 26 of a very sharp, effective nature as is desired. Heretofore these articles have been manufactured and tumbled after the complete died out formation. in my method the last operation is the cutting away of the portion 22 which leavesa sharp piercing point 26 inclined to one side of the lifte A in a manner so that a needle like point is drawn at on the finished lifter. The lifters are then ready to be used and are provided with such a design as would be most practical in use.
The drawings illustrate a particular formation of my lifter but I desire to have it understood that this is only suggestive as a means of carrying out my invention and that 2. The method of making cap lifters, consisting in partially blanking out the formation of the litter from sheet metal, then polishing off the die burr about the edge of the same and then cutting the lifter to form a sharp needle like end on said lifter.
3. The method of making lifters consisting in dieing out from sheet material the body of the lifter, then polishing off the die burr about the same, and then iiotching the lifter in a manner to form a sharp needle like point with a piercing end thereon.
4. The method of making lifters consisting in dieing out from sheet material the body of the lifter with its complete formation excepting as to the piercing point, and then polishing olf the die burr and removing a portion of the lifter to form a sharppier ing point.
