Horizontal slotting of the arm portions 1l is obviated With the present construction. The ferrulcs not only provide a. protection to the hands ofthe user against engagement or rubbing upon the upper ends or edges of part-s 'll and 1Q but also provide an extreme ly rugged construction for preventingthe relative rotation of the grip assembly with respect to the arm portions.` The seniicircular socket portion 18 is alsopaiticulaily adapted to transmit vertical forces from the grip assembly to the arms. The rivet 2l is arranged to interengage and closely iit openings iii the inner wall portion 12 which was previously cut away adjacent the rivet and also in the ferrules and in the reenforcing element as heretofore.

An assembly for a shovel handle having a Wooden grip portion and a pair of spaced arm portions comprising in combination with the aforesaid parts of ferrule members disposed upon the ends ofthe grip, said `ferrule members being provided with boss portions arranged to curve over and thence to curve backvvardly over the top ot' the arm portions to thereby affordI a smooth protection for the users hands and serving to keep them from contact with the ends of the arm portions of the shovel and to afford curved continuoussurfaces at the exposed points of said ferrule. 1 2. A shovel handle assembly comprising a portions, a wooden grip gllP portion, said ferrules having hollenT bosses thereon constructed and arranged to forni outwardly open vertical slots, open at the bottom to slidably receive thearni portions of the shovel handle, said bosses having vertically straight side portions toeinbrace the outer edges of the arm portions and prevent y ofthe handle and said ferrules.

A shovel handle assembly comprising a handle body portion and a grip assembly portion carried thereby7 said grip `assembly comprising a Wooden grip, metallic terrules upon the ends thereof and prevented from rotating with respect to the Wooden grip poi'- tioii, said ferrules having a semi circular boss portion extending over and affording protection against contact with the upper ends of the handle, said feri'ules further having iiange portions to einbrace the edges of the arm portions and prevent relative rotation of the grip assembly and the handle body portion when the parts are assembled together.

A shovel handle comprising a body por tion having arm portions consisting of ,vvardly from the Hat portion at enforcing element, integral inner and outer sheet metal portions, the outer portions being folded ovei and embracing said reelilorcing element, and a grip assembly carried by the body portion and comprising `a Wooden grip ,with metal` ferrules thereon, said ferrules having a surface thereon arranged to directly abut against the inner surface oit the inner wall portions of the arms, said iicri'ules iurther having portions thereof arrangefl to embrace the edges of the arms and prevent relative rotation of the grip assei'nbly and the body portion of the handle. f

5. A shovel handle comprising a pair of spaced sheet metal seinbly carried thereby and therebetween,

A ferrule for to sheet metal arm portions of ay shovel handle comprising ailat plate-like portion which abats the end surface of the grip"inthe edges to fastening a wooden grip side of the arms, and a boss portion struck outwardly from the flat portion at' the top thereof forming a boss which affords protection to the user from the top of thearms.
