FUNNEL.
. Application filed May 18,
This invention relates to improvements in funnels, and has for its object to provide a simple and practical construction wherein the funnel is supported in position upon the neck of a bottle in such manner that the air in the bottle will be effectively vented as liquid is poured into said bottle.
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing- Figure l is aside elevation of the funnel invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view thereof; and
Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 2.
The funnel of the present invention may be made of hard rubber, glass, porcelain, or any other suitable material and is shaped to provide the usual tapered body portion 4 and nee: 5 depending from the lower extremity of said body portion.
In order to allow the air to escape from the bottle 6 while it is being filled, the neck 5 is provided at diametrically opposite portions thereof with grooves 7 extending throughout the entire length of the neck and forming air vents on the exterior thereof.
1926. Serial No. 109,852.
At the junction of the lower end of the body portion 4; and the inner end of the neck 5 there is provided an annular outwardly pro jecting bead ti forming a support for the funnel to properly position the same With relation to the bottle 6, said head resting upon the top of said bottle. The head 8 is provided with cut-out portions forming openings 9 therein which are aligned with the upper ends of the grooves 7 thus forming outlet ends for the air vents, which ends will be located above the upper end of the bottle and thus permit the free egress of the air from the latter as it is being filled.
What is claimed is: i
A molded funnel made of glass and including a body portion, a neck extending from one end thereof and provided with longitudinal grooves extending the entire length of the neck and forming air vents on the exterior thereof, and a bead projecting from said body portion at the junction thereof with said neck and forming a support adapted to rest upon the top of the bottle being filled, said bead having openings therein extending inwardly from the outer periphery thereof and in alignment and merging with the, grooves in said neck.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JEROME HENRY MOONEY.
