rlhis invention relates more specifically to a device for holding packaged materials 1n immovable relation to hollow paper' rolls.

A main object ofthe invention is'toprovide adevice formed of aA single piece of wire,

Referring now to the drawings'fdesignates the package holding device which is preferablyformed of a single length of wire of a sufhciently heavy gauge to prevent accidental deformation during handling. In the formation of the device a vertically 'disposed member 6 is provided, the distance between its ends equalling the combined length of the packages of materials that are to be mounted in the holder. The lower end of member 6 is bent at right angles thereto in the form of a package supporting loop 7, and its upper end is bent at substantially right angles thereto to form a package engaging portion 8, itsV length being substantially onehalf the diameter of the opening S of the paper roll 9 to which the device is attached.

Y In securing the package holding device to a roll of roofing paper, the operator after the winding o f theroll iscompleted takes a packages of nails 17 ,and a can of roofingl cement 18, such articlesbeing. used by the` workmen when laying roofs, and places the same between the loop 7 and the horizontally` disposed portions 8, 11. The device with the packages secured thereto is then inserted withinthe roll opening 9, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and the operator forces the member 14 of theclamping jaw 15 downwards'between two adjacent windings of the roll, the inner member 12 ofthe aw engaging the cylindrical surface of the opening 9 thereby firmly clampingthe laps of the paper therebetween, the distance between the jaw members 12 and 14 being slightly less than the thickness of about tive laps of paper. j

In Fig. 5, a modified form i'sillustrated which is substantially'the same as the form heretofore described with the single exception of the clampingjaw. In this form the end of portion 11 is bent downwardly to form a roll engaging portion 20, its end `21 being flattened to facilitate its insertion be tween the roll laps.
