This invention' rel ates to drain protectors.
vThe primary objzectofthe invention is to provide a` protector which may be placed overfthe outlet drain cfa roof or other drain and which will! prevent the stopping up of the drain through the accumulation of leaves,
sticlis or trash of anyl sort.
A further Objectis to1 provide a device of this character which-permits water which may accumulate on the roof to escape at different levels so that if the device is partially stopped up and the level of water rises it Will still escape throughthe device.

On opposite* ends of the device Water inlets 8 and 9 are fixed or made integral and communicate with the interior of the device.
These inlets 8 and 9 arel in different hori-V zontal planes. In other words, one is ina plane higher than the other and each of these inlets are in the shape of T-couplings horizontally positioned and openl at their upper and lower ends, as clearly indicated in Figure 2. .Y

as shown in Figure 27 the water will drain from therroo'f through the slots 7 and' dow-ir theV drain under ordinary conditions, but shouldthese slots 7? Vbecome clogged, dfue to traslif, ice orl any other cause, A@che water would still enter the device and pass down' through the drain through one or the other of the .iniets' 8 and 9.
I have shown in Figurev 2,fou-r waterlevels, indicated by dotted lines 10, l1, l2 and 13. Should the slots 7 be stopped up when the waterreaches the level 10 it will flow through the inlet 8 into the device and down the drain. Should the lower end of this inlet 8 be stopped up, the level of water would rise to the line' indicated by the reference numeral 13 and would flow through the inlet 9. Should this lowerY end of the inlet 9 be stopped up, the water will rise to the level of theline 11 and flow down `through the inlet 8, and if this becomes stopped up the water level may rise to the point indicated by the line l2 and flow down through the inlet 9.
It will thus be noted that with my mproved device an inlet for'water is had to the drain until the device is entirely covered by trash or other materials, and as it is diiicult to believe that the occasion Will ever arise where all of the inlets to the de vice and drain are stopped there will be a. ,practical assurance of drainage from the `roof. regardless of conditions.
It is a well known fact that a great of roof outlet drains and the accumulation 'of water on the roof but with my improved devicein position over kthe drain a complete stoppage of t-he escape of water is practically impossible, and liability of damage amount of damage is caused by the stoppage Y due to accumulation. ofwater on the roof is nulliied.
The inverted inlet to the strainer pre-`V vents material floating on the surface from entering the device as no water can flow until the water level generally rises to the height of the horizontal-inlet.` The heavier material cannot be drawn into the device.
`Various changes and alterationsV might be made in thek general form of the parts described without departing from the spirit of the invention and hence I do not limit myself to the precise detailsset forth but Y consider myself at liberty to make such changes'and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
