PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY YANovsKY, or New YORK, N. Y.
TRAVELING BAG.
Application filed August 18, 1926. Serial No. 129,906.
This invention relates to traveling bag frames and more particularly to the method of fastening the said frames to the bag material.
A particular object of this invention is to provide a bag frame of such construction that the bag material aswell as the lining may be easily and inexpensively attached thereto.
Heretofore in bag frames it has been the custom to fasten the bag frame to the bag material, by means of either sewing or riveting. In the latter case the bag material and lining were placed upon the inner face of the frame and an additional stripv of metal was placed on top of the lining and then the entire combination was riveted together. This consumed a great deal of time, the work was laborious and costly, and it required a skillful mechanic to accomplish this operation satisfactorily. To eliminate this expensive, lengthy and laborious operation is the main object of this invention.
Further important objects and novel features of construction. of my invention will become more apparent .as the specification proceeds.
Referring to the drawings wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention: V
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a bag having therein a frame constructed in accordance'with my idea. i
Figure 2 is a top plan view of my frame in open position ready to have the bag body attached thereto.
' Figure 3 is a fragmental cross sectional view on line 33 Fig. 2 showingthe cross section of one of the frame members and Figure 4 is a fragmental cross section on line H Fig. 1, showing how the bag material and lining are held in place in the frame members. 1
Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 in dicates a. bag of the usual type having. a body portion 6 made of leather or other material and provided at its closing edges with pliable metal frame members 7 and 8 pivoted together at their ends 9 and 10. The frame members 7 and 8 have a cross section of a substantiallyinverted U shape, before they are bent over to clamp the bag material of the body portion 6 and the lining 11. As shown in Figs. 2 and?) the said frame members are each provided with a top wall 12,
a side wall 13 and a narrower side wall 14 abutting the top wall 12. In this position the wall 13 is bent downwardly around the edges of the bag material and lining by any suitable means provided for this purpose. The result of the operation just described being a positive and tight clamping through the entire length of the bag material and lining edges between the walls of the frames 7 and 8, shown in Fig. 4. From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a positive simple and inexpensive means for attaching a bag frame to the body of a bag and thus eliminating a great deal of skilled labor and resultant lgigh cost in the manufacture of traveling ags.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new is:
r In a bag provided with a body portion having an opening therein, a bag frame member comprlsing atop wall, a bottom wall integral with and bent parallel to the top wall to form clamping means for the bag material at the top and ends thereof, and a depending wall integralwith and bent at an angle to the top wall forming additional clamping means for the bag material between the said depending wall and the edge of the bottom wall.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
HENRY YAN OVSKY.
