' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LoUIs B. srEINIGEn, WILLIAM II. eEEsE, AND NERI. w. REEsE, or OMAHA NE- BnAsxA, AssIeNoas To GRIP Bow TIE COMPANY, oFoMAIIA, NEBRASKA.
BOW TIE.
Application led December 15, 1922. Serial No. 607,103.
To all whom t may concern.'
. Be it known thatwe', LOUIS B. STEINIGER,
WILLIAM M. REESE, and MERI. W. REESE, citizens of the United States, residing at 5 Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented -a certain new and useful Improvement in Bow Ties, of'
tains. Various shaping frames have hereto;
fore been used but have certain vobjections, being either too ex ensive to manufacture,
or too diicult an expensive to insert-.in 23 the tie. Y .e
Our improved frame and tie overcomes these various objections.
4For a better understanding of our invention references is to be had to .theaccompanying drawing in which Figure l is a ace view of a bow tie embodying our invention;
Fig. 2 is a top view of Fig. 1, the dotted lines indicating Various forms the tie may be shaped into;
Fig. 3 is a face View .of the shapin element of the tie attached lto the filler or ack'- ing strip; A Fig. '4 is a. face view of the shaping element; and
F.Fig 5 is an enlarged right end vie-w of Tteferring more in detail to ourinvention as; illustrated, we show a bow tie A of ordi-` nary cloth construction .but with our `im'- made up in a standard shapewhich it re-v proved shaping frame B added thereto. i This frame 4is preferably made up of a ilexible metal element in the form of a wire 54 suitably secured between fastening elements 6 7, preferably paper pasted together with the wire 5 held thereby. This wire is such CTI that it may be readily bent into various angles. The frame B is then preferably fastened to a' lining or backing 8 which is usually made of cotton wadding. To fasten the element B to the backing 8 we preferably sew the parts' together as indicated at the Vdotted lines 9. This is a cheap and effective way of assembling the parts.
The complete insert, that is the metallic reinforced shaping element B and the backing or filler 83are then built into the tie as it is made up, this being indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The tie may now he shaped as desired by 65 bending the wings back against the collar, away from the collar'or straight across, asl indicated by the full' and dotted lines in Fig. 2. Also it will be apparent, that th'e wings may be bent up or down if desired. In fact,
. they may be readily placed at almost any angle where they will remain u ntil changedaccording to the will of the wearer.
at we claim as new and desire vto secure by United States Letters Patent is:
The combination with a. bow tie, of a shaping insert built into thetie as itis made up, said insert including a. straight pliable wire strip, two paper fastening facingsfsecured together over said'strip, and a filler or backing to which said facings are sewed to form a unit insert shaped to be held in thetie, said wire strip and paper tacings being readily bendable so as to permit moving the tie wings into various angular positions as desired.
