PATENT IMPROVEMENT IN STANDS FOR FIRE'lRONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 65,101 dated'June 29, 1875; application filed July 5, 1873.

The invention relates to what are technically known as stands for fire-sets.
The object of the invention is to produce a stand that possesses therequisite strength and durability, and at the same time presents a highly ornamental appearance; and it con sists in constructing the same with a base composed of suitable metal and tile, of any desired pattern, advantageously disposed, and with two independent supporting-standards, connected at or near their upper ends by an angular supporting crosspiece or rest, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my improved stand; Fig. 2, a plan View of the same; and Fig. 3, asectional view taken through the line as 00, Fig. 2.

In the drawing, A is the base of the stand. The bottom of this base B, as well as the corners O and top D, is of brass or other metal, while the panels E are of ornamental or plain tile. The center of the bottom M of the receptacle thus formed is of tile, of a mosaic or other pattern, and is surrounded by highly-polished steel. The sides of this receptacle are also of polished steel. Rising from corners diagonally opposite to each other, within the receptacle above mentioned, are two highly-polished standards, F F. These standards are screw-threaded on their lower extremities, and pass entirely through the base portion, and are secured in position by nuts.
The tops of these standards are also made screw-threaded, in order to furnish a means of securing the angular rest or crosspiece G in position. This latter part is of brass or other suitable metal, and has one or more hooks, H, attached thereto, for suspeudingbrushes,
dusters, 850., and is provided 'with holes at two of its angles, for securing it in place on the standards. 1t is held in position by means of the brass knobs J, which screw over the tops of the screw-threaded standards. The tile forming the bottom of the receptacle being harder than the material of which the articles which are designed to rest therein are composed, there is no liability of the former becoming destroyed or defaced; but it will always retain its polished appearance.
Stands for the purpose for which my invention is designed have been heretofore constructed with a single upright and a small arm; but my stand, with two standards rising from the base, and having the large arm secured thereto, all in the manner shown, possesses an advantage over the old method of construction, in that there is greater security to the fire-irons, as well as less liability of the stand being overturned, standing, as it does, solidly, with the weight of the articles, which it contains about equally distributed over the entire stand.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A stand for fire-sets, consisting of the base A, constructed as specified, having the tile floor M, the standards F F, and cross-piece or rest G, all as and for the purpose herein set forth.
