STOVE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed May a,
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for stoves and has for its primary object the provision of an attachment which will collect and carry any smoke issuing from the stove as well as the odors from the food being cooked.
Another object ofthe present invention is to provide a device of the character stated which may be readily and easily applied to both gas wood stoves now in use and which will effectively perform the functions set forth above.
Another object ofthe present invention is to provide a device for the purpose stated including adjustable side plates and a sliding cover which may be moved toward and away from the stove as may be desired.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an attachment which while simple in construction, is nevertheless strong and durable which is cheap to manufacture and which may be placed on the market at a reasonable cost and one which is well designed for the purposes for which it is intended.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and formation of parts as will be more fully hereinafter set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings; forming a part of this application and wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several. views:
Figure 1 is a side view of an attachment constructed in accordance with the present invention and shown in association with a stove. a
Figure 2 is a front view of a portion of the stove attachment per se.
Figure 3 is a central vertical sectional view through a portion of the attachment showing the construction and arrangement of the adjustable side plates and the cover.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4.--4 of Figure 2.
Reference now being had more particularly to the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration has been dis closed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the letter A generally represents a stove of any conventional or preferred construction and B the present improved attachment associated therewith.
192-6. Serial No. 106,503.
The stove A embodies generally the body 10 of any desired construction and from which extends the usual flue 11, the upper end of which communicates with the house chimney.
The attachment B is adapted to be supported directly above the body 10 of the stove and embodies in its construction the longitudinally extending hood 12 which is curved in a front to rear direction, the rear end beingsupported by means of a suitable support 13, which preferably comprises a plate extending the entire length of the hood the rear side of the top of the hood 12 and, the upper end of the support 13 being provided with flanges 14L and 15 through which are passed suitable securing elementssuch as bolts or rivets 16. The top of the hood 12 is provided intermediate its ends with an outlet opening 17, surrounded by the upstandii g annular flange 18 over which is adapted to be secured the lower end of the tapering flue 19 which, if desired, may be of ornamental configuration. The ripper end of the said fine 19 has fitted thereto an elbow 20 and this elbow communicates with the flue 11 through the Inedium of the hori- I chains or other flexible elements 2 1, the up per ends of said chains being connected to suitable ornamental fixtures secured to the ceiling of the room in which the stove is located. Thus, it will be seen that effective and nojvelas well as attractive means is pro vided for supporting the opposite ends of the hood. a
V Secured to the inner faces of the end walls 22- are the upwardly curved channeled guides 26 within which are slidably mounted the opposite ends of the curved adjustable hood section 27 provided with a suit able handle 28 to facilitate the opening and closing thereof. It will be noted that the hood section27 extends beyond the forward end of thehood and is adapted to be adjusted towards or away from the stove to conlates 29 are dis osed against thg the Woo lit ! ered as may be found desirable and that the nuts 32 will effectively retain said plates in positions of adjustment.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that when the attachment B is installed upon the stove A in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, the smoke from the stove as well as the odors from the food being cooked will be collected by the hood and conveyed to the flue 11 through the flue 19 and its section 21. This attachment will consequently prevent the accumulation of soot and grease on the walls of the room. The attachment may, with very slight modifications. be applied to various types of stoves.
Should it be found desirable, due to excessive smoke or odors, the plates 29 may be lowered and the hood section 27 pulled outwardly and downwardly to more etliectively prevent the escape of smoke or odors to the room.
Certain types of stoves are provided with warming closets and when it is desired to use the attachment in connection with such a type of stove, the bracket 13 is dispensed with entirely and the attaching flange 14: of the hood 12 is secured directly to the said warming closet.
While there has been illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction thereof may be resorted to without departing from or sacrificing the spirit of the invention so long as such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
\Vhat is claimed is:
1. An attachment for stoves comprising a hood including a top having an outlet therein and end walls carried by said top, vertically adjustable side plates carried by said end walls, means carried by said end walls and passing through said side plates for securing the same in adjusted position, and a cover section carried by the said hood.
2. An attachment for stoves comprising a hood including a top curved from front to rear having an outlet in the upper side thereof, end walls extending downwardly from the said top, vertically adjustable side plates carried by said end walls and provitt ed with slots therein, and bolts carried by the said end walls and received through the said slots for retaining the said side plates in positions of adjustment.
in attachment for stoves comprising a hood including a top curved from front to rear and having an outlet in the upper por tion thereof. end walls carried by said top. vertically adjustable side plates carried by said end walls and provided with slots. bolts carried by said end walls and passing through the slots in the said side plates, and nuts upon the said bolts engaging said side plates for retaining the same in adjusted position.
4. An attachment for stoves comprising a hood including a top curved from front to rear and having an outlet in its upper portion intermediate its front and rear sides, end walls carried by said top. curved ehanneled guideways upon the inner sides of said end walls, a hood section curved from front to rear and slidably mounted within said guideways and projecting forwardly of the top ot the hood. bolts passing through the end walls. side plates mounted upon said bolts outwardly of said end walls and adapted to be raised and lowered, and nuts upon raid bolts engaging said plates for retaining the same in positions of adjustment.
5. An attachment for stoves comprising a hood including a top having an outlet in the upper portion thereof and end walls depending from the top. vertically adjustable side plates carried by the said end walls, and a hood extension slidably adjustably mount ed beneath the said top and between the side walls to be adjusted to project forwardly beyond the top of the hood and to extend between the said side plates in the lowered positions of adjustment of the said plates.
In testimonv whereof I attix my signature.
FLORENCE ANDERSON.
