PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM P. GRANT, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE GAS-PLATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed June 8, 1920. Serial No. 387,470.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. GRANT, a; citizen of the United States, and resident of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain against a wall.
It is the object of my invention to provide a device of the character indicated in which a gas plate operatively connected to a gas supply may be readily turned into an inoperative position against a wall or inclosed in a compartment prepared therefor, at the same time cutting off the gas supply thereto and as readily positioned for use at the same time automatically opening the gas supply thereto. A further object is to provide a device of the character indicated which will be simple in arrangement, construction and operation, and particularly adapted to be fitted into or upon the wall of a room, the closure or door for the inclosing compartment acting as a support for the plate when in use.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention operatively mounted in a compartment in a wall.
F Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2- 2 of Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section through the supply pipe joint.
. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of another embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 indicates a compartment in a wall fitted with door 2 on hinges 3. At 4 is a bracket supported in compartment 1 a distance from the back thereof and having a gas plate 5 revolubly mounted thereon by hinges 6.
The plate 5 is fitted with a gas supply pipe 15 in the usual manner and passing backwardly along one end thereof to a joint 16' in axial alinement with hinges 6. Joint 16 is formed ,by fitting a member 17 on a fixed taperlng supply plpe 18 provided with an orifice 19. Member 17 communicates with pipe 15 through passage 20 and revolves on pipe 18, being held thereon by nuts 21.
In operation when the door 2 is lowered and held in a horizontal position the rollers 9 operate on tracks 10 until the plate 5 as-' sumes a horizontal position. This lowering of the plate automatically revolves member 17 on supply pipe 18 so that orifice 19 communicates with pipe 15 thereby permitting the gas to flow. When the door 2 is closed the plate is turned back into the compartment 1 and member 17 is revolved on supply pipe 18 so that the communication between p-assage 20 and orifice 19'is broken and the flow of gas is interrupted/ In Figs. 4- and 5 it is shown that substantially the same mechanism may be used to mount the device on a flat wall, but brackets 22 pivotally connected to plate 5 and provided with shoes 22 operating in vertical track 23 are used instead of the door support hereinbefore described. In this case the ends 24 of tracks 23 are used as supports'for the sliding brackets'22.
A pan 25 having a raised rear edge 26 is placed on door 2 to prevent sliding of material from the door into compartment 1 when the same is closed. 7
I claim:
A wall compartment, a counterbalanced door hingedly mounted on the front lower edge thereof, tracks mounted thereon in parallel relation to the side edges thereof, a bracket mounted in said compartment, 2. gas plate hingedly, mounted thereon, weighted legs on the forward portion of said plate adapted to engage said tracks, a fixed gas supply p1pe having a discharge head in axial alinement with said bracket, and gas connections to said plate revolubly mounted on said fixed head and in communication therewith.
WILLIAM P. GRANT.
