Siev-e.
Patented June 29, 11875..
WITJV'ESXS'ES v @da/@www l jm ,a-XWMM Attorney N.PETERS. FHdl'O-UYHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. (1C.
vNITED STATES ATENT JOHN EPENETER AND CARL B. GRAHL, OFA COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SIEVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,083, dated June 29, 1875 application filed April 6,1875.'
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that we, J oHN EPENETER and CARL B. GRAHL, of Council Bluii's, in the county of Fottawattamie and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Sieves; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a loose-bottomed round sieve, and is intended as an improvement on the Letters Patent, No. 153,563, granted to Carl B. Grahl, July 28, 1874, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the saine, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to theannexed drawing', in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section of our improved sieve, and Fig. 2 is a section showing a modification in the construction of the outside hoop. y
A represents the outside hoop, made of sheet metal, in round and slightly-Haring form. The lower edge of the hoop A is bent inward, and then doubled outward, forming a double dan ge, B, for supporting I(he sieve-bottom. A suitable distance above-thel flange B there is a circumferential bead, a, formed on the interior of the hoop A, for the purpose of holding the sieve bottom down in place on the iange B.
In place of one continuous bead, as described,
we may use a series of small projections, b b,
narrow metal strip, having its outer edge d bent over outward and downward. Ihe wirecloth D is placed on' top of this rim, and folded over the outside of the flange d, and then bent up between said flange and the body of the rim, and then fastened by pressing the flange down and forming a double fold. The bottom is strengthened by cross-wires h h.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is.
The removable round sieve-bottom, consisting of the rimC, with the iange d bent outward .and downward, and the wire-cloth D, fastened therein by a double fold, in combination with the exterior hoop A, provided with ange B and bead a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 8th day of March, 1875.
JOHN EPENEIER. CARL B. GRAHL.
