Description

PATENT OFFICE.
ABNER VAN HORN, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORE-BOXES.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 16,502, dated January 27, 1857.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNER VAN HORN, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Core-Boxes for Waking Cores for Valve-Cocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification.
The nature of my improvement consists in the construction and combination of a box or flask made in two parts or halves, each partor half having zigzag-shaped holes cut through them, and when the box is together there is upon each side of it a lift to grasp with the hand,to which are attached certain projections. which are of the same zigzag shape as are the holes which are cut through the two parts or halves, and into which these two zigzag-shaped projections are placed and fit closely, and meeting and touching each other when the box or flask is matched and put together, as hereinafter described.
The following is a description of the construction and combination of the core-box.
Figure l represents (perfect for use) a perspective view of the core-box A, which is made in two parts or halves with the two zigzag projections B B inserted, but not shown in this figure, which are attached to the lifts C C. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the y interior and shapeof the core-box, and also Fig. 4 represents the other part or half of the box with the projection B withdrawn and represented by Fig. 3, which 4was drawn out from the opposite side of the said half, Fig. 4, thus showing a clear opening through at b. c c c c, Fig. 2, are four stud-pins, the size corresponding with the four holes c c cc in Fig.. 4, (through mistake are made pins.)
Operation: I ll each part or half of the box solid, in the usual way. AfterI have put each projection into its place through the opening or zigzag holes, I then put the two parts or halves together and press them tight; or I may place the two parts together after being partially filled with sand and then clasp the two parts together with the hand and finish lling the box. In extracting the core from the box I first draw out both of the projections by the lifts; then the box will open very easy and the core removed with ease and perfectness.
Having thus briefly described the construction of my improvement, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is the following:
The use of the compartments B B, constructed and operating as dcscribed,.when arranged in connection with the lifts C C and ask A, as set forth.
