Description
DANIEL E. LILLIS, OF LOOKPORT, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOOT-TREADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,007,
dated June 29, 1875 application filed May a, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL E. LILLIs, of Lockport, Niagara county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Foot-Treadle, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the construction of swinging foot-treadles for sewing-machines and others, in which an adjustable foot-plate is bolted onto the hanging bar, for shifting forward and backward on the bar to balanee the feet relatively to the pivot; and it consists of ribs cast on the edges of the footplate, in combination with the notched hangers, to assist the binding-screw in holding the foot-plate fast.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved foot-treadle. Fig. 2 is a plan View. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a portion of the bar which carries the foot-plate, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of a portion of the foot-plate.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts.
A represents the hanging the horizontal portion, of the portions, and B swinging bar for carrying the foot-plate O,Whiel1 is bolted onto it by the bindingscrew D in the slot E, to allow the plate to be shifted forward and backward. In addition to this bindingscrew I now propose to have a rib, F, cast on each edge of the foot-plate, to slide in a notch, G, in the bar, for aiding the set-screw in holding the footplate, the said ribs to be used instead of arms heretofore made separately, and bolted on, as they lessen the cost and are stronger.
In the large number of treadles which I have occasion to ship quite frequent fracture of the guide-rods takes place, rendering the foot-plate useless, and entailing upon the shipper a very serious loss. I dispense with these rods by constructing the foot-plate with the ribs above described; hence,
NVhat I claim is- A treadle foot-plate, B, having a rib, F, on each edge, as and for the purpose specified.
