IMPROVEMENT IN REVERSIBLE CAPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,987, dated June 29, 1875; application filed June 5, 1875.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MoRnIs FOX, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Reversible Cap, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved reversible cap folded up for commen use, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same reversed.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.

The object of my invention is to furnish for drivers and others employed in out-door work an improved reversible cap, that may be read ily arranged to fully protect the neck, ears, and face, and give a water-proof covering, for the same.

The invention consists of a reversible cap, having double-back crown section, supplementary front section, and overlapping double front.

In the drawing, A represents my reversible cap, which is made of a double back crown= section, B, that may be turned down over the back of the head and neck to cover the same, and be folded up to the crown of the head for common use. The front crown-section (J of the cap is provided with a double front, D, of which the lower part-is to be worn on both sides by being folded up or down, and the upper part to be brought down over the lower one to protect the same against the weather. One side of the cap may be made of fur, plush, cloth, or other material, while the other side is made of rubber-cloth or other waterproof fabric. The front crown-section G- is covered with a supplementary segmental front piece, E, that is attached at both sides of the cap iutermediately between the parts of the double front D, being overlapped by the fold ing-back section B, and attached in that post tion by an elastic loop and buttons of the outer sections, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper part of the frontforms an extension of the same material for the supplementary section E when the main front is thrown down to shade the eyes.

By detaching the loop of the crown-sections the folded rear part may be reversed and eX- tended down to the neck; the supplementary crown-section is then swung over the front, below the chin, to cover the ears and the front part of the neck, and the upper front is thrown over the lower part of the front piece, as shown in Fig. 2, so that a perfectly water-proot'head covering is obtained, which forms a valuable protection in the cold and rainy season to car and omnibus drivers, and all others who are exposed to the inclemencies of the weather.

By reversing it into the common cap shape a neat and compact cap of the usual style of traveling-caps is obtained, which can be furnished at very low rates, according to the material employed, so as to be within the reach of all.

Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A reversible cap composed of doublefolded rear crown-section B, supplementary swinging front crown-piece O, and double-folding front piece I), arranged substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth,
