This invention relates to mine cars and has as an object to provide an improved mine car ot composite construction. 1t is also an object of this invention to provide a mine car of the type speciiied in which the side tloor portions are tormed integral with the sills and are corrugated to receive bracing members. lt is also an object of this invention to provide an improved bumper for mine cars of the type speciiied which will facilitate repairs to the car tloor. It is also an object of this invention to pro vide a mine car ot' improved construction which is rugged and inexpensive to manufacture and readily and cheaply repaired and which is adapted to be readily modiiied in various details without modification ot' the main features of the construction.
With these and other objects in view a mine car constructed in accordance with this invention comprises, asshown in the drawings, metal plates 1 forming the side floor portions of the car and having their inner edges bent to vform Z-shape sills having vertical webs 2 and inwardly projecting bottom flanges 3, the-top flanges of the sills coinciding with and being part of the side Serial No. 35,639.

In the structures shown in Figs. 1 to 3 and 7 to 9, inclusive, wood sides 20 are shown carried by the side floor portions and .engaging the iianges 4 while in the modification shown in Figs. a to (5 metal sides 201 are shown secured to the flanges 4. In each of the constructions the sides are braced by strap brace-s 22 extending beneath the car body ll'rointhe top ot' one side to the top. ot the other side. The braces 22 are secured to the wood sides by bolts 23 and to the nietal sides by rivets 231. The braces 22 lie in the corrugations 18 and are fastened therein by rivets 24 and are secured to the langesl of the plates l by bolts 23 or rivets 231 and to the flanges 3 ot the sills by the bolts 9. f.
Extending from end to end of the car is the inverted U-sliape drawbar or buffer meinbeil 2G having laterally projecting iianges 28 secured to the braces 22 by the bolts 34. Secured to the flanges 8 oiz the` sills are brackets 8O in which is pivotally mounted a shaft 8l having crank arms 82 pivot/ally connected to ends ot flexible brake bands 83 which lit over the treads of the Wheels and have their opposite ends riveted to bracket-s 8st secured to the adjacent brace 22. At one end the shalt 8l is provided with a crank arm 85 pivotally connected by a link 86 to a brake lever 87 pivotally mounted in a bracket 88 secured to a side plate l. The brake lever 87 extends upwardly inside the body of the car through an opening in the side iloor l and has .its upper end bent outwardly and projecting over the side ol the car Which is slightly lower at this pointin order to keep the `brake leverfrom extending above the upper edge of the car side. The brake lever is provided with a projection adapted to engage in the teeth 89 formed on the angle 90 secured to the car side 2O to maintain the. brake lever in brake applied position. To protect the brake lever from the lading there Leliases is provided a plate 9]. having lianges by which it is secured to a car side, an end and the .floor and which lorms, with the car side. end and floor, a pocket in which thel brake lever operates.

In a mine ear, metal side floor portions having their inner edges bent to form sills having inwardly projecting flanges, a center floor portion between saidsills, tie members connecting said side fioor portions, bracing members engaging said sill flanges and means connecting said tie and bracing members and center iioor portion, said side floor portions having corrugations receiving said bracing members.
10. In a mine car, sills, a drawbar member, planks between said sills and drawbar member and bumpers carried by said drawbar member and some of said planks, said planks adjacent said sills being removable past said bumpers and providing openings for the removal of said bumper carrying planks.
11. In a mine car, sills, a drawbar member, planks between said sills and drawbar member, some of said planks projecting beyond the other planks, and bumpers carried by said drawbar member and said longer planks, said shorter planks being removable past said bumpers and providing openings for the removal of said longer planks.
12. In a mine car, sills, a drawbar member, planks of different lengths between said sills and drawbar member, said shorter planks lying next said sills, and bumpers carried by said drawbar member and said longer plank, said shorter planks being removable longitudinally of said car past said bumpers providing openings for the removal of said longer planks.

In a mine car, a central wood floor, combined sills and side floors in part underlying said central wood floor, extending thence upwardly substantially vertically and then outwardly in a plane below the wheel treads, said combined sills and side floors having hooded openings for the wheels and ties connecting said side floor portions above said central floor.
14. In a mine car, a buffer member, combined sills and side floor members, Wood floor portions overlapping said buffer and combined members and ties connecting said side floor portions above said wood floor.

In a mine car, journal boxes having supporting faces in a. plurality of planes, a central floor portion supported by relatively low supporting faces of said journal boxes, combined sills and side fioor members supported upon said relatively low supporting faces and upon other relatively high supporting faces of the journal boxes and ties connecting said side floor portions above said central floor.
1G. In a mine car, journal boxes, combined sills and side floor members connected directly to and supported upon said journal boxes, a central floor portion intermediate said journal boxes, and ties connectinor said side floor portions above said central oor.

In a mine car, combined sill and side floor members having horizontal flanges, a central floor resting on said flanges, a central bull'er member, ties connecting said combined members above said central fioor, side walls, and braces secured to the outsides of said side walls connected with said central floor and buffer member.
18. In a mine car, metal side floor ortions having brace receiving corrugatlons formed therein.
19. In a mine car, a central floor portion, metal side floor portions and means on opposite sides of said floor connecting said side floor portions, said side floor portions having -corrugations receiving some of said connecting means.
