Description

B. 0; WILSON.
Shot-Cartridge. No. 164.894. I Patented J u.ne'22,1375- WITNESSES INVENTUR ATTORNEYS; I
BAKER D. \VILSON, OF SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA.
IMPRQVEMENT IN SHOT-CARTRIDGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,89d, dated June 22,1875; application filed March 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BAKER/D. WILsoN, of Shreveport, in the parish of Gaddo and State )t' Louisiana, have invented a new and Imrox'ed Paper-Lining for Shell of Metallic Jartridges; and I do hereby declare that the Following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side View; Fig. 2, a central longitudinal section; Fig. 3, side'view of paper tube or case.
This invention relates to cetain improvements in metallic loading shells or tubes fol breech-loading shot-guns; and it'con'sists in the combination, with a metallic'loadin g tube adapted to receive the powder, shot, wads, and caps, and be recharged as often as fired, of an undivided, eontinous, and detachable lining of paper, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, A represents a metallic shell, which, under ordinary circumstances, is loaded with a cap in the end, and the powder shot, and "wads in contact with its metallic walls. B is the tube, case, or lining of paper which slides into and is about twice the thickness of the metallic shell. Said lining reaches to the bottom of theshell, and receives the powder, wad, and shot and wad consecutively, as in ordinary loading, the end of the lining being crimped. at a to hold the load in tightly. When the gun is discharged the load passes out. leaving the lining of paper in the metallic shell, and tliesaid lining may be used n t dl r.Without, re e l.-. Bywme s .o i this paperlining the durability of the metallic shell is increased.
I am aware of the fact that cartridges have been constructed of separate tubes of paper for the powder and shot, which are held together by a thin metallic band or cylinder, but this is simplyia cartridge'which is used but once,'th chamber containing the shot being carried out therewith. I, therefore, disclaim this idea, and confine my invention to the terms of the claim.
Having thus described my inyention, what Iclaim as new'is- The combination, with a metallicloading shell or tube for'preecli-loading sh0t-gl1nS,;0f an undividedfcontin'uous, and detachable Iin-i ing of paper, substtintiallyas and for the parpose described. I
