CONCEALED HOOKANDEYE TAPE.
Application filed March 19, 1926. Serial No. 95,907.
This invention relates to improvements in concealed hook and eye tapes and has for its main object the provision of a hook and eye fastener, the parts of which can be inserted into the belt or tape while the fastener parts are in semi-finished condition.
Another object of the invention is to produce a double flap tape or belt having a single ply joining edge interwoven with the said flaps, adapted to permit a hook or eye in semi-finished condition to be inserted through one of the flaps and then bent around projections on members inserted lnto the other flap and then riveted in position.
A further object of the invention is to produce a tape or belt of this nature adapted to have a raw edge of a garment 1nserted therein and sewn to same.
Other objects and novel features of construction of my invention will be fully described as the specification proceeds.
I have illustrated one form of my invention as applied to a hook tape only, but the same construction may be applied to the eye ta e.
In the drawings forming part of this invention,
Figure 1 is a face view of a portion of a tape with the hooks passing throughthe top flap and riveted to riveting members passing through the bottom flap.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view ofa portion of such belt with one of the hooks in place.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detail View of one of the hooks before it is inserted into the fabric.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing how the hook passes through the upper flap and Fig. 6 is a view showing the hook in the upper flap before it is bent and riveted.
Referring to the drawings in detail 10 indicates'a belt or tape comprising an edge portion 11 and a bottom and top flap 12 and 13 respectively interwoven with the said edge portion 11. Hooks 1 1 are inserted through the upper flap 13 leaving bent over portions 15 projecting outside of the flap 13, the said hook having legs 16 pointed at their ends that are bent around and riveted to eyelet members 17 passing through the lower flap 12.
Heretofore attempts have been made to produce concealed hook and eye fastening means but these attempts have not proven successful as the means employed were not practical. In the present invention, however,
the means employed are simple, practical and inexpensive. The means employed in the present invention consist of taking a wherever such fastening is necessary, and at the same tlme actlng as a binding to cover I both sides of any exposed raw edge.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a practical, simple and inexpensive hook and eye tape adapted to be used on garments and enclosing and completely covering any raw edge, Where the said tape is sewn to the garment.
It will also be evident that the upper flap 13 will conceal and cover the rough edges or surfaces of the metal parts and thus prevent rubbing against the garment. Furthermore, my improved construction of the double flap tape for the purpose intended, will prevent the bent-over portion 15 of the hook from pulling away from the tape, being firmly held at the point ofentrance by the upper flap.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. The'met-hod of fastening hooks to a tape having a single ply edge portion and a double flap integral with the edge portion, the said method consisting in the insertion of a riveting member having eyelets thereon through one of the flaps, the insertion of a partly completed hook having a bent over portion and legs joining said bent over portion through the upper flap and between the eyelets of the said riveting portion, then bending the legs around the eyelets and riveting the eyelets over the bent le s.
3. A tape, comprising a double flap, a single ply edge portion integral With and 5 extending beyond the juncture of the double flap, a fastener; pierced at the juncture" through one of the flaps, an upper portion on the fastener even with the line ofjuncture and protruding through one of the flaps an eyelet riveting member projecting through the otherflap, and legs on the hooks passing between and bent around the eyelets on said riveting member, the said eyelets and fastener legs bingeeon'cealed betWe'enth flaps.
