The other end of the rod 12 is preferably increased in diameter to form the movable core 13 of a solenoid 14.
The pawls 11 are formed by the extremities of a U-shaped member pivoted to the rod 12 at the junction of said extremities, and arearranged one at each side of the centre of the disc 9 with the project-ing pins 10, so that either one of said paWls 11 can be brought into use, one to turn the spindle V3Pin one direction, and the other to turn a leverl7 having a pin or arm 18 projecting between the pawls 11 which engage the projecting pins 10 on the disc 9 on one of the roller spindles 3 7 The upper end 17 of the lever 17 is tapered and rounded off and has bearing against same a flat spring 19' formed with a downwardly bent port-ion 19 (Figure 3).
A further flat spring 20 with an upwardly bent portion-2O bears on and between the pins 10 projecting from the disc 9 on the roller spindle 3*, before mentioned, so as to check and hold the rollers 3 against turnin until such timeas a change of matter be ing displayed is required, said spring 20 not being strong enoughto interfere with ,movement of the band 4 when'such change is being made.
A spring 21 is provided on therod 12 between a collar 21 thereon and a bracket '22 whichserves as a guidefor the rod 12, when the latter is moved by the attraction of the solenoid 14. s 7 Means, such as screws 23, are also provided for adjusting the pressures of the spring 19.
The solenoid 14 is energized by any desired and usual manual or automatic circuit make and break device, (not shown as it can be wholly conventional) every time it is desired to change the matter appearing in the sight opening 2. Each time'the solenoid is energized, its movable core, in thepresent case, the upper end 13 of the rod 12, is drawn upwards against the action of the spring 21, and thereby raises the pawls 11 to the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawing. On the solenoid being de-energized, the
spring 21 expands and forces the rod 12 downwards, causing the pawl 11 which is for the time being in-operation, to strike. a pin 10 and impart turning movement to the spindle 3 and rollers 73;
This continues to happen each time the solenoid is energized, until the lever 17 screwed on the spindle 7 is worked along to and locked against one of the stops 8, where upon on the following turning movement of the spindle 7, the lever 17 is thrown over to one side and its pin or arm '18 strikes and forces the pawl 11 then inoperation clear of the pin 10 on the ,disc 9,which action brings into operation the other pawl 11, so that on the next upward movement of the rod 12, the reverse turning movement will be imparted vto the rollers 3, the turning of the rollers being reversed each time the lever 17 locks against a stop 8.
The spring 19 acting on the end 17 of the lever 17 presses against a side of the tapered end and holds the lever in position un til the next change is desired. A hand lever 24 projects from the lever 17- through a slot in the casing 1, in order that the position of the said lever 17 canbe normally reversed when desired independently of the screw threaded spindle 7. 7
The upper end of the solenoid core 13 is preferably extended beyond the solenoid l4 and thence through the top of the casing 1 where it is provided with a convenient handle 25 in order that the rod 12 can be raised against the action of the spring 21 by hand, when it is desired to change the matter being displayed independently of the said solenoid 14. The ends of the sections 4 of the band 4 are formed and extended as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing, said extended portionsbeing turned back and secured to the section 4 to which they belong so as to form loops 26. A fiat rigid strip 27 is adapted to be passed through the loops 26 alternately on the ends of a pair of adjoining sections 4", tosecure the latter together to form the complete band 4. By this means, any desired number of the sections 4" can be removed as desired, or
further sections can be added to the said band as occasion arises.

Apparatus for the purpose specified, comprising, a disc, pins projecting from the disc, a pair of pawls arranged, one at a time, to engage with the pins, a screw threaded spindle geared tothe disc, spaced stops on the spindle, a lever threadedly mounted on the spindle between the stops, an arm on the lever extending between the pawls, and a spring acting on one end of the lever.
